Volunteer Service Credit Program Offers Tax Credit to Emergency Services Volunteers
A public hearing was held regarding the proposed ordinance to establish a Volunteer Service Credit Program for Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company volunteers. After careful consideration and no public comments, supervisors voted unanimously to approve the ordinance. The goal is to
encourage membership and service in the volunteer fire company. The program provides an annual real property tax credit of 20 percent to each certified, active volunteer who meets the specified requirements. Sustainability Strategic Plan to Guide Township Policies and Practices
Dedicated to improving the health and livelihoods of all who live, learn, work and play in Moon Township, s
upervisors unanimously approved a resolution to adopt the Sustainability Strategic Plan, as proposed by the township's Green Team. This plan provides a framework for the Board of Supervisors, in conjunction with Moon Township staff, the Environmental Advisory Council, the Moon Parks and Recreation Board and all Moon Township stakeholders, for establishing sustainable policies and to enact sustainable procedures and practices throughout the township.
Moon Township Joins Live Well Allegheny Initiative
Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution for Moon Township to participate in Live Well Allegheny, an initiative to improve the health and wellness of Allegheny County residents. Led by the Allegheny County Health Department, the program highlights the need to increase physical activity, eat healthy, and be proactive in managing one's health, including physical and
mental wellness, personal and community safety, preparedness, efforts to improve well-being and quality of life, education and health literacy.
Plans
include activities in all 130 municipalities, the 90 neighborhoods in the City of Pittsburgh and the 43 school districts that call Allegheny County home. Learn more by visiting the Live Well Allegheny website.

Public Works Summer Job Opportunities  Moon Township is accepting applications for Seasonal Laborers with the Public Works Department. Employees in this classification are asked to perform various tasks including grass mowing, trash collecting, building maintenance, road maintenance and parks maintenance. Work hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend and holiday work may be required. Click here for more information. |
Electronics Recycling Day
Saturday, April 7 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Municipal Building
Moon Township's Environmental Advisory Council hosts electronics recycling days in partnership with JVS Environmental. These events collect electronic items only, including printers, copiers, computers, laptops and televisions. Only one TV per vehicle will be accepted. Other items, such as appliances containing FREON and fluorescent lighting, will be collected for a fee. Recycling collections are open to Moon Township residents only. Proper ID is required. |
Waste Management At Your Door Recycling Program
Can't make it to the electronics collection? Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials.
 There are three ways to schedule a collection:

After scheduling your collection date and time, a Waste Management representative will provide you with information and instructions for preparing your collection. MTVFC Sportsmen's Bash
Saturday, April 21 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Public Safety Building
The annual Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company Sportsmen's Bash will be
held on Saturday, April 21 from 12-7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. Tickets, which include food and refreshments, are available for a $30 donation. Contact a fireman
or visit one of the fire stations on Mondays at 7 p.m. to obtain a ticket.

Spend some time at Robin Hill learning how to protect and sustain our planet. Earth Day is a fun, educational, interactive event for all ages.
This year's theme is
Gardens ... Can You Dig It?
It highlights the importance of creating a culture of growing and developing local gardens, including vegetable gardens and native plant species.
Moon Area elementary school students in kindergarten through fourth grade are participating in a t-shirt design contest, and the winner will be crowned at the event.
Attractions include a visit from the National Aviary, interactive displays, arts & crafts, trail hikes, a petting zoo, an outdoor climbing wall, a bike helmet giveaway from the Moon Township Police Department, and much more.

Each week features a different theme, and kids will enjoy and action-packed summer filled with arts & crafts, music, exercise, games, field trips, special events and more. Enter MCA-TV's Film Festival
Saturday, May 19
The Kenny Ross Toyota of Moon Township Film Festival returns in May, marking the seventh year for the competition. Area filmmakers are invited to put their creativity to the test in the following categories: Best Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature Film, Best Narrative Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film, and Best Narrative Short Film. Thanks go generous sponsors, a total of $3,600 will be dispersed among the winners.
Enter your original film before the May 10 deadline and watch the event live on MCA-TV on Saturday, May 19. Films will be judged by a panel of film experts from the Pittsburgh area. You do not have to be a Moon Township resident to participate.

Sell Your Products at the Farmers' Market
 Opening day for the Moon Township Farmers' Market is Wednesday, June 6. The market takes pride in being a traditional producer-only market. This means that all vendors must grow or make at least 75 percent of their own products for sale.
We're seeking additional vendors for our 2018 season, including dairy producers (eggs, cheese, butter and milk products); hot prepared foods; foodie trucks; organic foods; nurseries; artists and crafters; vintage and used clothing; antiques; coffee and tea; and wineries, breweries and distilleries, to name a few!

Property Tax Information
2018 Township of Moon Property Taxes
The collection period for all Moon Township property owners began on April 1 with the two percent discount through May 31. Please note that the Pennsylvania tax collection law states the property owner is responsible for his or her taxes regardless of whether a bill was received. If you did not receive a property tax statement
within the first week of April
and do not have an escrow account with a mortgage company, please notify my office and we will gladly mail you a duplicate copy.
Change of Address
If a property owner's mailing address needs updated or changed for whatever reason, please contact me at the Moon Township tax office at 412.299.7446 as well as county treasurer John Weinstein at 412.350.4100, as soon as possible.
