Can you believe it's August? School will be starting soon but before it does be sure to go have some fun at the outdoor pool before it closes for the season. It's a great way to stay cool on these hot summer days. August is also time for Youth Appreciation Day! The calendar of events is listed below ⬇️ along with other great events and news.

Lastly, if you haven't already taken the MRD facility survey please take a couple of minutes to do so. Here is a link. The survey will close this Friday, August 4. Feedback will help improve operations to maximize customer experience and value.

Due to popularity, some Fit Zone classes are reservation only. Drop-ins are allowed if there is space. You can place a reservation the day prior to class after 8:00 am. Reservations for Monday open at 8:00 am the previous Friday. Reservations can be made online, by phone (970) 249-7705, or in person. Please bring a mat to class.

NEW! Montrose Newcomers and Neighbors

The purpose of Newcomers & Neighbors is to help you learn more about your hometown and the area and to meet other newcomers and neighbors! Neighbors are former newcomers who enjoy the meetings and getting acquainted with new people.

Meetings: First Wed monthly – September through May. Guest speaker from 10 – 11:30 am

Location: Senior Center 1800 Pavilion Drive

Field Trips - Third Wednesday monthly to areas of interest – 10 am followed by lunch.

New Horizons Band of Montrose

This program provides an entry point to making music for 50+ adults with NO prior music experience, as well as those who were once active in a school music program.  Participants must provide their own instrument and supplies.  Assistance will be provided to help find an appropriate quality instrument. Questions: Email nhbandmontrose@gmail.com

Ouray Ice Park

This is a 2.5 mile RT loop that takes about 1 ½ hours to complete. 485’ elevation gain: Difficulty - generally considered easy.

Fee: $20 (bring a sack lunch)

Pickin’ in the Park – Paonia

Enjoy performances by: Carsie Blanton, Jackson Emmer and Woodnote. There are food booths and a libation tent which features exclusively local beer and wine.

Local Business Tours -The Tortoise and the Hare & Geyser Systems - Montrose

We will learn about this common to exotic pet shop that supplies all your small animal and reptile needs. Geyser Systems manufactures a hot portable shower that uses less than one gallon of water and is ready in as few as 5 minutes!

Local Walk plus Dinner in Montrose

Socialize and meet new friends while taking a leisurely stroll around different areas in Montrose (2mi or less). We will have dinner either before or after the walk (depending on temperature). If the walk isn’t for you, you can just meet us for dinner!

Enjoy warm Southwestern hospitality, delicious dining, and exciting casino action and sports betting thrills. You will have approximately 5 ½ hours in the casino for gaming and dining.

Brenda Miller, licensed wildlife rehabber and founder of the non-profit Roubideau Rim Wildlife Rescue, has lots of stories to tell about wildlife in her care throughout the years. A donation jar will be available to help support Brenda’s wildlife rehab efforts!

Tai Chi for Health & Energy

Tai Chi uses slow, controlled movements, weight transference, mental resistance & quietness of mind to bring ease to the body. This is a Sun Style based Tai Chi class which incorporates Qi Gong. Novice to advanced are welcome.

Stronger Senior’s Core Fitness Chair Exercise

Provides variety in your fitness plan with routines for flexibility, strength, aerobics, cardio, balance and core. This is a self-led, DVD with a volunteer who sets up.

Moving with Mike

This DVD workout includes a warm up, 20 minute workout and a 5 minute relaxing stretch exercise cool down. Improve your balance, leg strength, upper body strength, coordination and posture. Both standing and sitting options.

Ceramics and Crafters Day

Ceramics – bring your own piece or purchase from us. We provide paints, finishing sprays, and glazes and we fire your project. Call Shelly (970) 424-4451. Fee: $15/session (January-May), paid to instructor.

Black Canyon Woodcarvers

Golden Circle of Friends
