Late Fees on Past Due Water Bills

Starting September 2023, the Town will be implementing late fees on all past due water bills. If a water bill has not been paid by the last day of the month it is due, a late fee will be added to the balance on the account. This will become effective with our August 30th bills that will be due by September 20th. If we do not receive payment by September 30th, a late fee will automatically be added to the balance.

WaterSense & Water Savings

  • WaterSense labels products that are 20 percent more water-efficient and perform as well as or better than standard models.
  • The average family can save 13,000 gallons of water and $130 in water costs per year by replacing all old, inefficient toilets in their home with WaterSense labeled models.
  • Replacing old, inefficient bathroom faucets and aerators with WaterSense labeled models can save the average family $250 in water and electricity costs over the faucets' lifetime.
  • Replacing showerheads with WaterSense labeled models can reduce the average family's water and electricity costs by $70 and can save the average family more than 2,700 gallons of water per year, equal to the amount of water needed to wash 88 loads of laundry.
  • Giving a home's main bathroom a high-efficiency makeover by installing a WaterSense labeled toilet, showerhead, and faucet aerator can pay for itself in as little as 1 year.
  • Replacing a clock-based controller with a WaterSense labeled irrigation controller can reduce an average home's irrigation water use by up to 30 percent and can save an average home up to 15,000 gallons of water annually.
  • Other data and information used by WaterSense is available at https://www.epa.gov/watersense

Weaverville Center for Creative & Healthy Living News

Weaverville Center for Creative & Healthy Living: Blog / 1 June 2023

Special Announcements:

Tai Chi: (An open letter from Barbara Ramsey who has been our Tai Chi instructor since we opened our doors back in October of 2021.) “It’s with a heavy heart that I’ve made the decision to end leading the Weaverville Tai Chi classes. I will continue with my own tai chi but no longer feel physically comfortable with the commitment to leading or instructing. No one is irreplaceable so don’t despair friends, Tai Chi in Weaverville will continue. Colleagues of mine in the Tai Chi community will be taking over the class beginning June 13 so there will be a smooth transition with no missed sessions. Class will continue on Tuesdays with the split times of 9:30-10:10am Beginners and 10:20-11:00am Continuing. All are welcome to attend either or both times. I’ll still be leading the classes on May 23, 30, and June 6, then hope to join you in practice sometime in July.” Note: Nancy Miller has stepped up to take over as the lead Tai Chi instructor effective June 13th. Nancy can be reached at ttcnance@gmail.com should you have questions or need further information about the practice of Tai Chi.

Zumba Gold: Finally, Zumba Gold classes will come home to the Community Center in the Albert Weaver Room on Tuesday, June 6th. Classes will run through June with a brief hiatus in July before resuming again on Tuesday, August 1st. Classes are held each Tuesday from 6:00-7:00 PM. For more information, contact Angel Trail, PT at: angel@bigivypt.com.

Poetry Group: After a very enthusiastic first meeting, Mel Kelley (our Poetry Group Champion) has requested on behalf of her participants to expand their meeting times from one hour to ninety minutes! Please note that their next two scheduled meetings on May 30th and June 27th will run from 7:00-8:30 PM in the MultiPurpose Room. So glad to hear they are expanding their programming so soon! Perhaps there will be a poetry reading at the Community Center in the not so distant future.

Welcome back, Yoga with Wendy Mallett Lantis. Wendy recently required surgery in late May. Wendy was one of our original 12 volunteers who has been teaching since the start of our WCCHL programming. As such, Wendy has a special place in my heart for her generousity as a volunteer as well as her gentle spirit that inspires us all. Please send special thoughts and prayers for her continued healing so that she is back soon doing what she does best… uplifting bodies, minds, and spirits! Classes are due to resume Monday, June 5th with either Wendy or a qualified substitute. Namaste, Wendy. Yoga (One Hour Session), Monday & Wednesday, from 10:00-11:00AM. For more information contact Wendy at: bloomingself@gmail.com

Welcome New Sponsor: Thank you Dave Trout and Trout Insurance for joining the Weaverville Business Association as our WCCHL sponsors. Look for their logos on our Facebook page and Blog entries.

UPCOMING EVENTS – Free Admission

Book Preview, Reading, and More: The World Beyond the Redbud Tree, by Madison C. Brightwell. Friday, June 9th, 7:00-8:30 PM

Madison C. Brightwell (a Weaverville resident) will read from and discuss her new novel - The World Beyond the Redbud Tree. This novel was written by Brightwell during the COVID pandemic as a response to what she saw as a world that needed some healing and hope. The novel is set partly right here in Weaverville, and partly in a fantasy parallel universe, in which our teenage heroine, Charli, discovers a Utopian world where different and better choices were made - a world in which the native peoples were embraced by the white colonists and not destroyed by them, which created a harmonious and peaceful society. Madison hopes to inspire readers of the book to think about how we can all contribute to making the world a better place. This event will feature…

  • An interview with the author,
  • Q&A with the audience,
  • A performance of an extract from the book by local actors,
  • Local musicians, and
  • A book signing by the author at the end of the evening.

Review: "Brightwell's storytelling is vivid and rich and her writing compelling. The World Beyond the Redbud Tree is a fascinatingly adventurous and original examination of life, grief, forgiveness, and compassion. It's unlike anything I've read before: captivating, touching, gently magical and ultimately uplifting."—

Penny Haw, author of The Wilderness Between Us and The Invincible Miss Cust.

If you want to have Madison sign your copy of her book after her presentation, it is available through Amazon.com in both hardcopy and paperback.
