Unsung Heroes
I had the opportunity to speak to the CAP’s Glastonbury Support on Thursday, January 17th. I spoke about the many initiatives CAP is undertaking. I also led the “Caregivers” breakout session. I reminded the group in front of me that CAP’s Support Groups are there to “support” not only those with Parkinson’s, but also their loved ones.

How I See It
| a Blog by Michelle Hespeler

As you have probably heard and read about, exercise is the best thing one can do to combat this disease.
Parkinson’s is a neurological disease that cause many, many symptoms with the most visible being tremors and slowness of movement. Intense exercise is said to cause firing in the brain which then triggers the dopamine, neurons and cells to more efficiently do their job and make the muscles move.
The more intense the exercise, the more often the exercise and the more muscles used for exercise, the more firing in the brain and the more improved results. The results being improved daily symptoms and slowing the progression of the disease.

Advocacy Efforts
| with Steve DeWitte

|
My advocacy travels have slowed considerably during the year-end and January, but I am pleased to have been able to recently attend the hilarious – and touching – off-Broadway play, “Side Effects May Include…”, written by Seinfeld writer Marc Jaffe and Broadway playwright Eric Coble, and starring Nick Koesters. A wonderful dinner was enjoyed with my PWP friends from Fairfield county prior to the play – and a good time was had by all. Here I am shown with Karen Jaffe, Michelle Hespeler, and Marc Jaffe, after the play.

Are You Newly Diagnosed?
You. Need. To. Exercise. Now.
“Research and personal experience continue to show the critical importance of exercise for people with Parkinson’s. Regular physical exercise can improve mobility and coordination, boost your mood, reduce stiffness, soreness and fatigue and may even slow down the progression of Parkinson’s itself.”

Exercise Essentials Mini Course. Don’t wait.
Not convinced?
Read this Blog from a PWP who believes Exercise has slowed the progression.

Fox Insight: Data is the key – and your participation is how it is gathered.
"I think it is the single most important thing that you can do... I'd ask you to go to
FoxInsight.org and to participate by giving information about your disease so it can be bundled with everybody else's and we can get to a better place and recommend treatments and recommend symptom reduction techniques and the like." - Jim McNasby, who has lived with Parkinson' for nearly two decades

Although scientists have thus far been unable to determine the exact cause of the condition, they have identified multiple associated risk factors.

|
Fox Trial Finder was created by the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help increase the flow of willing participants — both people with Parkinson’s and control participants who do not have Parkinson’s — into the clinical trials that need them, accelerating the Parkinson’s drug development process.
