Businesses Recognized as Recycling All-Stars

Just a couple weeks ahead of America Recycles Day (November 15th), City Council and Athens Services formally recognized Amgen, Takeda, Santal, and Cisco's as the City's "Recycling All-Stars" during the October 24th Council meeting for their outstanding efforts in recycling and waste generation reductions. Celebrating National Entrepreneurship Month

November is National Entrepreneurship Month. To commemorate this occasion, we would like to convey our deep appreciation for all of our local entrepreneurs. This includes those visionary individuals dedicated to developing innovative products and services that can help address global and industrywide problems, but it also includes those that contribute specifically to the uniqueness that makes Thousand Oaks the special place it is.

9th Annual National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week is coming November 13-19th! During this nationwide celebration employers, industry associations, labor organizations, community-based organizations, workforce partners, education providers, and government leaders host events to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are instrumental in re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, building a pipeline to good quality jobs, and supporting underserved communities. Learn more about National Apprenticeship Week here.

Unemployment Rates & Jobs by Industry

Tracking labor force and employment trends helps the City better understand supply and demand shifts as they relate to local workforce and land use needs to inform decision-making. 

City of Thousand Oaks

According to the California Employment Development Department, the preliminary Thousand Oaks September 2023 unemployment rate is 4.0% (down from a revised 4.4% in August 2023).


The City has a total of 64,200 in the labor force with 61,700 who are employed. Labor force participation within the City is up about 1.4% compared to September 2022.

Ventura County

The California Labor Market report shows Ventura County’s preliminary September 2023 unemployment rate at 4.5% (down from a revised 4.7% for August 2023). Countywide labor force participation is up about 1.2% year-over-year. Statewide it's also up about 0.75% year-over-year (not seasonally adjusted). 


A total of 3,200 non-farm jobs were added in September 2023. However, a total of 600 jobs were lost; amounting to a net gain of 2,600 jobs compared to the previous month. 

Job gains consisted of: 1,700 in Government; 1,200 in Private Education and Health Services; 200 in Leisure and Hospitality; and 100 in Trade, Transportation, and Utilities.

Job losses consisted of:400 in Professional and Business Services; 100 in Information; and 100 in Other Services.

Auto Sales

Automobiles sold in the City contribute significantly to the total sales tax revenue the City uses to support programs and services that continue to make Thousand Oaks an attractive place to live and do business.


A total of 1,246 new vehicles were sold in September 2023; up 5.7% from August 2023, and up 9.3% year-over-year.


In addition, 855 pre-owned vehicles were sold in September; down 0.8% year-over-year.
