Greetings!
Our Summer Reading Program "Read, Renew, Repeat" has landed! Once again, all ages are welcome to participate with the opportunity to receive a free book and be entered into a prize drawing.
One of the terms that is floated around for students is the "Summer Slide." What is the significance of the Summer Slide? Is it the rad slide inside the Monterey Sports Center or your favorite park slide? No, not that slide...it's the idea that students need to continue to learn and their growth can "slide" during the summer if you don't keep learning or reading. Kids then go back to school in the fall losing some of the gains they had at the end of the year.
I'll counter that we are all students throughout our lives - so the "Summer Slide" means we should all continue to grow and learn. Build your muscle memory and learn a new skill this summer. (why wait until New Years to set a resolution?) And if you have the opportunity to ride down a water slide or park slide - be a kid again and do so!
Gameboards will be available at our kickoff event on Colton Hall Lawn, Saturday, June 1st at 10am. Join us for music and crafts with Soul4Kidz! You can also find gameboards on our website, or cut out a gameboard in the latest issues of Monterey Bay Parent or MC Weekly. Play on!
Warmly~
Brian
