Greetings!

"I love you more than pancakes!"
Last week I had a young student tell me this. I was driving our Bookmobile to one of our local schools, and different classes were coming onboard. I had a student walk on with a huge smile, looking like he was waiting to tell me something, then shouted this out. He explored the new bus and sought out a new book that met his tastes.

Last week I was driving to a different school and a few girls came on board. One girl grabbed a big stack of books and told me she's a big reader. The group gathered close:

Girl #1 "OMG I'm going to have like 15 books on my desk!"
Girl #2 "Yasss Queen!" (then proceeds to do a little dance)

I love stories and quotes like this from the youth; the memories and importance of the library, learning, and self-guided exploration is being imprinted early! I often talk with adults who have fond memories of their youth when they came to the library. Just remember - the youth now are building their own histories and stories as they explore today! Remember to celebrate when children and youth are a bit loud when they find the perfect book. They are celebrating that moment of successful self-guided choice and exploration. They may be better than pancakes.

Warmly~
Brian

A CHILLING NOVEL ABOUT
OUR MISSING HEARTS
This month’s Book Flight Book Club features the fiction novel
Our Missing Hearts, by Celeste Ng, also the number one bestselling author of Little Fires Everywhere.

She writes of Bird Garner, a twelve year old boy who lives a life
governed by laws written solely
to preserve “American culture.” Bird’s mother, a Chinese American poet, left her family when he was only nine years old. This powerful story depicts the life of children of dissidents and their journey's for justice.

Does fear win or does a
mother’s love triumph?
