Mommie Dearest – ONE NIGHT ONLY

Film Screening, Talk & Book Signing

Join us Monday, June 10 at 7 pm for a special event screening and post-film discussion of MOMMIE DEAREST. Learn how this '80s biopic transformed into an unintentional beloved camp classic, notorious for its melodramatic scenes and a riveting performance from Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford.

Hollywood historian, A. Ashley Hoff, will join us after the screening to discuss the making of the film and its initial critical reception. Copies of Hoff’s new book, "With Love, Mommie Dearest: The Making of an Unintentional Camp Classic," will be available for purchase at the event.

MOMMIE DEAREST

Renowned actress Joan Crawford, at the height of her career, adopts two orphans — Christina and Christopher — to fill the lonely gap in her personal life. However, as her professional and romantic relationships sour, Joan’s already callous and abusive behavior towards Christina intensifies.

"Faye Dunaway gives a startling, ferocious performance in Mommie Dearest. It’s deeper than an impersonation; she turns herself into Joan Crawford, all right, but she’s more Faye Dunaway than ever. Her performance is extravagant–it’s operatic and full of primal anger. She invests the role with so much power and suffering that the camp horror scenes–the nocturnal rampages–transcend camp. Alone and self-mesmerized, Dunaway plays the entire film on emotion.”

— Pauline Kael, New Yorker
