Our first monthly newsletter is here!
News and information - Tishri 5777

Welcome to the first Moed Ministries Newsletter.  Thank you all for signing up to our email subscription service.  Many of you have already received announcements for our weekly video teachings and our Erev Shabbat events.  If you have not received the notices in your in box, check your “junk” folder and make sure that emails from us (moedtorah@live.com) are not blocked.

We are excited to offer this additional part of our ministry to you on an exclusive basis.  Each month, this newsletter will have information that we only publish right here.  You won’t find most of this material on our website or anywhere else.  This newsletter will have a wide variety of content designed to further enhance your study of God’s word.  We will cover history, Archaeology, Anthropology, Sociology, Ancient Biblical Languages, and other subjects which will enhance and support the study of God’s word.  We will also include recommendations for books and study resources and references which we have found useful in our research and study. Not all subjects will be covered in all issues.  Our goal is to offer a variety of material and keep the newsletter short and interesting.

One of the unique features every month will be a Biblical Calendar.  Unlike other “Biblical Calendars” published by many others, this calendar will be based on the Biblical cycle and follow the Biblical months with the modern Gregorian calendar in the smaller type.  This calendar and newsletter will be published monthly based on the Biblical cycle of the months and you will receive it about a week before each new month begins.

The calendar will contain all the moedim (Feast days) as well as the traditional fast days.  There will be a chart containing a listing of historic events which happened during the Biblical month.  There will also be a schedule of Moed Ministries events and programs included on the calendar.

Other things in the planning stages are special events such as webinars, special events and other video presentations and teaching sessions only available to subscribers of this newsletter and specific invited guests.  So stay tuned!  There are some exciting things coming soon to your in-box!

Biblical Calendar for
Tishri 5777
Each month we will include a printable calendar. This calendar will be different in that it is based on the Biblical months rather than on our Gregorian calendar. The calendar will include information about special days during the month including Festivals and Fast days.  It will also have the suggested Bible readings for each week based on the traditional Torah Portions as outlined by the Sages many centuries ago as well as readings from the Gospels and other Apostolic writings in the Brit Hadashah (New Testament).

To access a printable copy of the calendar, just click on the calendar image to the right or click the link below.

Studying the Bible 101

There is an old saying that goes something like this, “It is what you learn after you know it all that really counts.”  Many of us who have come to a Hebraic understanding of scripture did so because we have a deep desire to know God.  Not that we did not know Him before, but our knowledge of Him seemed somewhat lacking, perhaps even superficial in our view.  We desired something deeper than the Sunday sermon and the mid-week service.  Perhaps we tried reading the Bible each day, or picking up the occasional commentary or daily devotional.  Still things didn’t quite click into place.  Then along comes something called “Hebrew Roots” or the “Messianic Movement.” Maybe you found a new church to attend or some teachings on-line.  Whatever the case may be, you now found something about the Bible that made total sense and you could get excited about Bible study again.  There was just one problem; how do you actually study the Bible without someone, your pastor, your Sunday school teacher or a...

Recommended Bible Study Resources
We at Moed Ministries use a lot of study tools.  We have interlinear Bibles, many different translations, dictionaries, concordances, many study books and commentaries, books on Biblical history, archeology, anthropology and Bible languages, etc.  All of these tools are important when doing any kind of in-depth study of Biblical text.

One of the most important tools you can have in your Bible study tool chest is a good, comprehensive dictionary and lexicon of Biblical words and phrases.  When it comes to the Bible, things do get “lost in translation.”  Many times we are subjected to the preconceptions and prejudices of the translator.  They often times translate the original language text based on their theological understanding rather than what the text actually says...

Challah - Yummy Stuff!

Shabbat (The Sabbath) is a wonderful time to look forward to each week.  As we prepare for Shabbat and our dinner guests' arrival, we bake some Challah, which is a traditional bread for the Shabbat.  Here is the recipe that we use.

(For a bread machine capable of a 2.5 pounds.  For smaller capacity, multiply ingredients by 2/3)

Ingredients:
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups water (amount depends on the consistency of the flour)
3 eggs, separated, set whites aside
3 Tablespoons sugar
3 Tablespoons non-fat dry milk
3 Tablespoons margarine or butter
4 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 Teaspoons salt
3 Teaspoons Yeast

Starting with the water, place all the ingredients in the bread machine.  Run the machine on the "dough" cycle and let the dough rise for awhile after the cycle ends.  Usually about 30 to 45 minutes.  Punch down the dough, remove from the bread machine and divide it into 6 equal pieces.  Roll out each piece to long strips aprox. 1 to 3/4 inches thick.  Braid three of the strips together, pinching the ends.  Place on a greased cookie sheet and brush with the egg whites.  Let the bread rise for another 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Brush again with egg whites and sprinkle with a topping such as poppy seeds or sesame seeds.  Bake at 375 degrees for 22 to 24 minutes.

Divine Appointments with God
An In-Depth Study of the Feasts of the LORD

God wants His people to meet with Him every day, but in addition to our daily time with Him, God has set up specific days on which He will meet with His people. God calls these days His appointed times. In the English translations of the Bible, these days are called Feasts of the LORD. On these God ordained days, God wants us to witness the accomplishments of His redemption plan. Every major event of God's redemption plan occurs on one of these divinely appointed times, His feast days. Yeshua's (Jesus') death, burial and resurrection all happened on of the LORD's appointed days. The coming of the Holy Spirit on the disciples happened on one of these feast days. Following this pattern, Yeshua's return, execution of judgment and the establishment of His kingdom will each happen on one of these Feasts of the LORD.
