August 2023

All IFTA returns and Hazardous Waste transactions now online

As of August 1, filing of all International Fuel Tax Agreement returns must be made using MoDOT Carrier Express.

FILING ONLINE IS EASY AND REDUCES ERRORS

Customers tell us that completing IFTA and Hazardous Waste license filings online is easy. In fact, nearly 90% of all IFTA filings - including tax returns - are done online.

In addition, the system uses the most current fuel tax information reported by each state and province. There's no need to seek the current fuel tax rates for each jurisdiction, nor must carriers calculate tax due or refunds owed. The system does it for you.

WE ARE HERE FOR SUPPORT

During work hours, MoDOT agents are available to assist IFTA licensees with accessing and completing fuel tax returns and filing hazardous waste license renewals. And with fewer calculation errors, our Financial team can use time currently spent making corrections on your more pressing needs.

INTERSTATE 70 IMPROVEMENT UNDERWAY

Missouri's General Assembly and Governor Parson approved General Revenue for the costs to plan, design, and provide three lanes in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.

Drivers won't see an impact right away. Studies and planning will precede the construction phase. Part of that planning includes public involvement. Visit https://www.modot.org/improvei70/home to learn about overall improvements, then choose Public Involvement from the menu to learn where you can attend in-person open house meetings.

Can't make it to a meeting? Visit the virtual meeting between Aug. 28 and Sept 22, 2023. You'll see the same information presented at the meetings and have an opportunity to leave comments. Find a link to the meeting - starting Aug. 28 - on the website above.

OSOW TIPS - 3 Questions for MoDOT

MoDOT's customers ask great questions! Here are a few of the latest - with our best answers.

I made a mistake and was off route. I called to get new routing, completed my trip, then got a letter telling me if I traveled off route again, my ability to pull oversize permits in Missouri could be suspended. Why did I get the letter?

An OSOW permit is a legal document allowing those with loads that exceed legal limits to move on prescribed Missouri State routes. When you obtain a permit, you agree to abide by its terms. Any violation, even if not intentional, is a violation.

According to the Missouri OSOW rule (7 CSR 10-25.020, Section (3)), "All violations or misrepresentations will be recorded and the permittee will be notified in writing that future violations may result in a suspension or revocation of privileges." The letter you received is a reminder to abide by the full terms of OSOW permits.

How do I find the nearest state highway to my origin or destination?

If you are unaware of the Missouri State highway nearest the origin of your trip, either use a mapping website or app to locate it. In many cases, you can find the highway designation by using the zoom function of the MoDOT Traveler Information Map.

If you cannot determine the correct highway, type the origin/destination in the comment field of the permit application. Please note that when you enter a comment of any kind, your permit application will be reviewed by an agent in the order it was received. If you need a quick turnaround, be sure to use a map/mapping service.

When I have a question, there seems to be a disconnect between my permit office and MoDOT. What should I do?

MoDOT is the authority when it comes to the OSOW permits we produce. Consult and follow the instructions and terms of the permit document. If anything seems to be in error, contact us.
