We have new Sardis Serves t-shirts this year! You can pick up your shirt on Sunday, June 4 or Sunday, June 11!

Sardis Serves Together with Rise Against Hunger

A day of education, worship, and mission for ALL ages, children, youth, and adults. We are partnering with Rise Against Hunger to pack 20,000 meals to lend a hand to people facing hunger across the globe. Join us on Sunday, June 11:

  • 9:00 a.m. Sunday School: All ages are invited to gather in the Education Hall for an engaging Sunday School opportunity with Rise Against Hunger. We will have the opportunity to learn more about the work Rise Against Hunger does and gain a broader understanding of the hunger crisis around the world.
  • 10:00 a.m. Worship: One worship service in the Sanctuary with guest preacher, Rev. British Hyrams, Associate Chaplain at Presbyterian College.
  • 11:00 a.m. Lunch & Meal Packing: Lunch in the Education Hall and Meal Packing in the Fellowship Hall.

We also need volunteers to help with set-up on Saturday, June 10 and clean-up on Sunday, June 11. Please indicate you'd like to volunteer as you register. Click here to register!

If you would like to contribute to the cost of supplies used to make the Rise Against Hunger food packing event possible, you can click here to make an online donation.

Spring Food and Clothing Drive a Success!

Thank you to all who supported our sprig food and clothing drive with your donations. We collected 92 bags of clothing and goods for Crisis Assistance Ministry and 422 pounds of food for Loaves & Fishes. All donations have been delivered  and our neighbors are so thankful for the support.

Rama Road Elementary Homework Helpers Make an Impact

The Sardis Tutoring Program at Rama Road wrapped up on Thursday, May 11th.   It was a great year — we had 15 Homework Helpers and 3 substitutes who worked with 8 students on Tuesdays and 7 students on Thursdays, learning from each other and improving our reading, writing and math skills.  Look for how you can join in the fun in September!

The Backpack Ministry Feeds Rama Families

From October, 2022 – May, 2023, 846 food backpacks have been delivered to Rama Road Elementary School by these faithful committed Sardis friends:

  • Mary Andrews
  • Kathy and Gerald Cathey
  • Sue Docherty
  • Marilyn and Bill Taylor
  • David & Mary Leonard
  • Carol and Dave Lyke

On one occasion, the School Social Worker shared that when she offered the backpacks to a Rama parent, she replied that “I don’t want to take from someone else who has a need.”

When this Rama Staff shared that she would not be taking away from anyone and that the backpacks were here to help families weekly. Mom gratefully said, “I have no words how much this means to me, thank you.”

Coming Up...

Join the CROP Walk Planning Team

For the past couple of years, as we were working to revitalize Sardis’ interest and participation in the CROP Hunger Walk, we've had a team of two leading the efforts. We are hoping to have a larger team this year and are reaching out to see who might be interested in joining the CROP Walk Planning Team. We would love new, creative ideas as well as help with the normal logistical areas. Our church family has generously supported the “walk” financially. Our goal is to get members actively involved as well.

We will be returning the walk to our Sardis campus this year, which will be held on Sunday, November 12.

Some of the areas where help would be appreciated are:

  • Publicity/Marketing
  • Managing and encouraging sign-ups
  • Music management for the day of walk
  • Lunch organization
  • Educational components (from the 3 local organizations who receive funding from CROP or other hunger focused non-profits Sardis supports)
  • Activities the day of the walk (fun activities for children)
  • Possible service projects along with the walk (for those who are unable to walk or prefer to participate in other ways)
  • Preschool connection
  • Earth Care Team connection

Please let Vicky Hovis or Brenda McKay know if you would like to join our team or if you have any questions. It’s much fun and a great cause. Knowing that the work you are doing will make significant differences in the lives of our neighbors, near and far, is truly rewarding.
