MESSAGE FROM MISSION ADVANCEMENT
...thank you for being part of our great story!
| |
|
Dear Friends,
As we enter into these solemn days before Easter, we gratefully call to mind our many blessings in California for almost 100 years!
We are pleased to share our 2023 Impact Report, featuring some snippets of SND life and ministry while acknowledging the kind support of last year's donors. It includes updates on our 2023 Jubilarians, global missions, intergenerational fellowship, young adult outreach and much more.
Speaking of young adults, we were happy to welcome 8 energetic women for a weekend retreat recently. In the photo, Sr. Val Roxburgh enjoys a "Kodak moment" with Lovie. These comments about this experience of community, reflection and prayer speak volumes:
"Peace is not dependent on circumstances."
"It was amazing how the Holy Spirit inspired us to share our life experiences and to get closer to each other and to God."
"Jesus lived a hectic but balanced life."
"We so appreciate the hospitality and kindness of the sisters!"
Be assured that the SNDs carry you and your loved ones in our hearts and in our prayers as we celebrate Easter as a feast of hope and peace.
Blessings always,
Sr. Lisa Megaffin, S.N.D.
Director of Mission Advancement Services

FROM THE CALIFORNIA GRAPEVINE
Sr. Karlynn Werth, missionary/linguist, leaves for Korea
|
In the photo, the SNDs applaud Sr. Karlynn Werth after receiving a blessing for safe travel. Shown here are Sr. Colette Theobald, Sr. Regina Robbins, Sr. Gina Marie Blunck, and Sr. Joanne Wittenburg, congratulating Sr. Karlynn.
Sr. Karlynn Werth will spend the next six months with the SNDs in South Korea. She will be holding classes in English for the young sisters who already have some mastery in English. These sisters learned English during their years of formation but need further study. Sr. Karlynn, who is looking forward to this opportunity to learn about the Korean culture, will help them improve their conversational English skills. As an international congregation ministering in 18 countries it is very important for the SNDs to know English for international meetings and projects.

"Angel bags" readied for homeless individuals
The SNDs and staff members at Notre Dame Center prepared "angel bags" to share with homeless individuals during Lent. Goodies included kleenex, bottled water, McDonald's gift cards, hygiene products, snacks, and notes expressing prayers, care and concern. The photo shows Sr. Jan Marie Villalobos, Finance Manager Florie Pineda, Sr. Betty Bienlein, Sr. Margaret Scott and Sr. Marie Paul Grech collaborating on the project. The SNDs then give angel bags to homeless folks they meet when they are out and about in the community.
