Prepare to vote on April 4

Community members are urged to vote in the next statewide 2023 Spring Election this Tuesday April 4. Most community members living on or near Gaa-Miskwaabikaang will be voting for a Supreme Court Justice, Town of Russell Board Chairperson, Town of Russell Board Supervisor, Bayfield School District Board members, and several referendum questions.

Visit myvote.wi.gov to find all voting information, including your polling place and what will be on your ballot.

From Dee Sweet, WI Native Vote:

Spring is finally here – it is a time of rebirth, warmth, and new life. We plant the seeds of our ancestors – the plants who have been our teachers since Turtle Island was first created.

"Turtle Island" is commonly used by Indigenous people to describe our Mother, the Earth, and is often referenced in Indigenous creation accounts. The turtle represents the island in the midst of water where humans have reemerged – supporting all living things.

Since the beginning, plants have taught us to give thanks to the earth, how to respect the world around us, and have sustained us through generations. We are connected to this land because it has provided for us and we honor that gift.

Just like spreading seeds, we must always think about creating life for the seven generations that come after us. That means voting to protect the land, the plants, the animals, and all that sustains us.

When we vote, we are choosing a better future for our people. So, vote on Tuesday, April 4 and vote for the seventh generation.

Noojimo'iwewin Center Meetings

Harm Reduction - Keep our Community "SAFE"
Saving lives from HIV and Hepatitis C requires aggressive strategies to reach people at high risk. The purpose of the Red Cliff SAFE Program is to help reduce harm from risky behaviors.

The SAFE Program is operated out of the Red Cliff Community Health Center. This program is available to all members of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa as well as surrounding communities. Individuals can access clean syringes, sharps containers, sterile water, antibiotic cream, alcohol wipes, and condoms. By improving access to these materials, we help people who inject heroin, meth, and other drugs to reduce their risk of contracting HIV and Hepatitis C.

In addition, the Red Cliff Community Health Center now offers Narcan. Narcan is for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. When you come in for our needle exchange, you can request a dose(s) of Narcan at no charge to you.

If you or a loved one are at risk for HIV or Hepatitis C, we will never judge you or your behaviors. You can access the services by simply stopping at the health center reception and asking for the SAFE Program. The services are provided within the health center setting and are completely confidential.

The goal is to expand sites within the next year. The current services are available Monday – Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm except holidays. You can get more information by calling (715) 779-3707.
For other Health Center information or general questions call: 715-779-3707 or Email  RCHealthCenter@redcliffhealth.org
