PROJECT STATUS UPDATE

Summer is moving on along, and the construction projects in Northern Kentucky have been making great progress. Let’s take a look at the six major active projects from this year and talk about where they are now.

I-275 Pavement Work: Mineola Pike to Hebron

This project is complete and has moved to the corrective work stage. You might still see minor traffic impacts while contractors are working to finish the corrective pieces throughout the project limit. The below image shows the new guardrail that has been installed.

Contractors are working on the final tasks within the project limits to wrap up the project.

For more information about all of the projects happening in the KY 536 corridor, please visit bit.ly/KY536Improvements.

KY 536 from KY 1303 to Williamswoods Drive

This project began in Spring 2024. If you’ve traveled through the area recently, you’ve likely seen that construction is well underway. Crews have completed clearing and mulching operations, including removing trees and vegetation within the project limits, which are important activities to advance the project.

Currently, contractors are performing earthwork and culvert work.

Mineola Pike Widening

Crews are continuing to work on this project, and it’s expected to be completed in late summer.

Curb and gutter and guardrail installation are ongoing. Shared use paths will be installed in the coming weeks. Paving operations are in progress.

Donaldson Highway Widening

Crews have been working on soil stabilization and utility work recently, and work will continue through next fall. We’ll keep you updated about any major changes.

Back-to-School Safety Reminders

Believe it or not, school will be back in session quite soon! Please be extra cautious when driving in areas with children, such as neighborhoods and school zones. And speaking of school zones: please watch for both the school zone flashing lights AND for crosswalks. Drive carefully and stay safe.

Back-to-school also means that school buses will be back on the road. Here are some reminders about when you need to STOP for a school bus:

  • On a 2-lane roadway, when a school bus stops for passengers, ALL traffic from BOTH directions must stop.
  • On a 2-lane roadway with a center turn lane, when a school bus stops for passengers, ALL traffic from BOTH directions must stop.
  • On a 4-lane roadway with no median separation, when a school bus stops for passengers, only traffic FOLLOWING the bus must stop.
  • On a 4-lane road with a divided highway and median separation, when a school bus stops for passengers, only traffic FOLLOWING the bus must stop.
  • On a 4-lane road with a center turn lane, when a school bus stops for passengers, only traffic FOLLOWING the bus must stop.
