English as a New Language (ENL) Monthly Spotlight
Mid-State RBERN supported the second iteration of the ENL Summer Learning program at North Syracuse Central School District. There were fifty students and nineteen languages represented from grades 1 through 6. This program engaged students in learning experiences related to nature and animals while supporting language maintenance in both the home language and English. At the culmination of the program students used the skills they practice to create books related to the content they learned. The assessment data shows that students not only maintained proficiency, but in most cases showed growth in their English language acquisition.
