Now Open: Saluhall at Ingka Centre

The latest addition to the Ingka Centre, Saluhall, a 23,000-square foot space for 450 with two bars and nine food areas, is now open! It features Swedish and Danish food, such as that found at Smörgåsland, which serves bakery items and Scandinavian-inspired dishes; and Nordic-style beer from local brewery Fort Point Co. at the new Lagom Bar. Saluhall also features delicious Bay Area staples such as Curry Up Now, Kayma and Momo Noodle, among others. Those inspired by the food can also take a cooking class at Saluhall's Cookery Skola.

New Comedy Club to Open in Mid Market

Get ready for some great standup at the new comedy club and cocktail lounge The Function Set (1414 Market St.) from comedian Stroy Moyd. Set to open as early as this month, Moyd will move current comedy show favorite #HellaFunny to the club and also feature cocktail themes, for late spring expect Hawaiian drinks says SFist.

City to Take Over 1455 Market St. and 1145 Market St.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that "starting in May, more than 157,000 square feet of the [1455 Market St.] building will be leased to the city..." The article also states the lease will be for 21 years and will cover floors 12, 13, 15, 17 and a portion of the seventh floor. The article also notes, "The city has negotiated another deal in the building at 1145 Market St., near Civic Center, and expects to formally announce it [soon]."

Holy Stitch Moving to Market Street

Part sewing school, part denim factory space, and part community hub, Holy Stitch is moving to 1059 Market St. Those interested in taking classes or learning more can check out their website or their Grand Opening event on May 16.

Urban Curry on the Way to Market Street

The popular North Beach restaurant Urban Curry is readying to open their second location. What Now notes, "Coming to 1298 Market Street — an address formerly home to Indian vegetarian restaurant Ananda Fuara — Urban Curry will land near the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Dolby headquarters, and the San Francisco Public Library."

District Organization Recognized for Work Helping the Blind and Visually Impaired

A recent SF Examiner article highlighted the work of District organization Lighthouse for Blind and Visually Impaired, as they helped visually impaired voters this past election season, with the article also drawing attention to the work they do in Mid Market and beyond. Founded at Main Branch of the SF Public Library and now located on Market Street, CEO Sharon Giovinazzo said, "One of our goals as an agency is to make sure that we’re not just reaching out to them just to say, 'Hey, we have these services,' but that there’s people who look like them, that talk like them, that understand their culture."

The Beer Hall Readies to Open Second Location

The Beer Hall is readying to open their second location at 34 Mason (the old Mikkeller Bar space), and while the opening date hasn't been announced quite yet, they are currently hiring beer enthusiasts to work at this location. Those interested can find out more here.

No Turn on Red Expansion Project

SFMTA is proposing to enhance pedestrian safety by installing new No Turn on Red (NTOR) restrictions and accompanying signage at approximately 200 signalized intersections. This project serves as an extension to the currently installed Tenderloin Areawide No Turn on Red area which was implemented in 2020.

Live Music on Market Street: Busk It!

Featuring live music at various locations along Mid Market, the Market Street Arts' Busk It! "supports local musicians and creates a dynamic, joyful environment for patrons, residents, and those who work or visit the area." Running through November, see the map and concert times on their site.

On Stage Now: Sweatshop Overload

A NY Times Critics' Pick and called a "spiky comic tonic," Kristina Wong brings her one-woman show "Sweat Shop Overload," to the stage of the A.C.T.'s Strand Theater. The play details the early days of the COVID Pandemic and making masks with hundreds of volunteers. See it before the curtain drops on Sunday, tickets here.

Hip Hop on the Plaza

Happening along Market Street at UN Plaza, don't miss the hip hop demos, workshops and contests taking place at Hip Hop on the Plaza on May 10, 17, 24 and 31 at 4:30pm. More info here.
