Affordable Housing Initiative Launch
Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera is dedicated to the expansion of affordable housing within District 6. As a pivotal part of his commitment, we are excited to bring attention to the upcoming opening of Miami-Dade County's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List, which will be accessible from February 5, 2024, through February 19, 2024.
This program is a federal initiative that helps low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities afford safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Of the applicants, 5,000 will be selected to receive vouchers, significantly aiding them in reducing their rental costs.
Eligible individuals are encouraged to apply, keeping in mind the importance of reviewing the program's specific eligibility criteria. Commissioner Cabrera continues to advocate for initiatives like this, aiming to provide stable, affordable housing solutions for the diverse communities of Miami-Dade County. To assist you in this process, we have outlined the eligibility requirements here and provided a detailed list of locations for in-person applications, along with online application information.
Eligibility Criteria
Everyone age 18 and older is eligible to submit an application for the Miami-Dade County Public Housing and Community Development’s (PHCD) 2024 Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Waiting List.
At the time of selection, applicant(s) must meet the program requirements and the income limits for the household composition established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The 2023 income limits are as follows:

Happy Lunar New Year! The Year of the Dragon! | |
| |
This year, Lunar New Year falls on Saturday, Feb. 10. Across the globe, around 2 billion people celebrate the Lunar New Year, an international holiday observed throughout many Asian countries, including China, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and Mongolia.
Each year, the date of Lunar New Year changes. But no matter the date, each culture that celebrates has its own historically rich customs, traditions and beliefs.
Similar to the Western New Year, Lunar New Year symbolizes letting go of the past and ringing in the present. Celebrations are focused on removing the bad and the old and welcoming the new and the good. The Lunar New Year is also an important time for spending time with family to show one's love and gratitude. People will pay their respects to their ancestors and older family members.
What does the Year of the Dragon represent? It's time to say goodbye to the year of the rabbit and say hello to the year of the dragon. In the Chinese Zodiac, there are 12 animals. Each has its own attributes and characteristics. These 12 animals coincide with the lunar calendar in a 12-year cycle. People born in the year of the dragon are seen as charismatic, intelligent, confident, powerful, naturally lucky and gifted.
