Throughout the month of May, the Asian American Advisory Board (AAAB) celebrated Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month with federal government agencies, local governments, colleges and universities, museums and libraries, community organizations, and the residents of South Florida through various programs and events. AAAB also had the honor of celebrating at a reception held at the home of the Consul-General of Japan, Mr. Kazuhiro Nakai.
AAAB acknowledges the struggles, challenges, accomplishments and contributions made by Asian Americans throughout the past 150 years and encourages all to continue to actively participate in civic, cultural, commercial, and community affairs to work together to be more inclusive within the amazingly diverse Asian American community.

Elder Affairs Advisory Board hosts
resource fair in Doral
| The Miami-Dade County Elder Affairs Advisory Board held its annual Older Adult Resource Fair on May 29 at the Miami Dade College West Campus in Doral. Some of the participating agencies included AARP, the Alliance for Aging, Miami-Dade Public Library System, the Golden Passport office, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Office of Senator Marco Rubio, and various healthcare agencies. County Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez presented a proclamation for Older Americans Month. Attendees learned about Medicare and Medicaid updates and enjoyed food, music, and raffle prizes. | Military Affairs Board participates in Miami Fleet Week | Miami-Dade County hosted Fleet Week, for the first time ever, from May 5 to 12. Various events were held around the county, including concerts, public tours of the ships, a naturalization ceremony, and special activities for military personnel. Members and staff of the Military Affairs Board were actively engaged and present at many of the activities and are looking forward to the return of Fleet Week in the near future. | Community Relations Board attends MOSAIC Miami | The Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board attended MOSAIC MIAMI on May 5, in partnership with the Green Family Foundation's "Can we talk.. really talk" forum, which addressed the crisis in Haiti and its implications for Miami-Dade and the Haitian-American Diaspora. | Community Relations Board and Goodwill Ambassadors assist during Miami Beach Air & Sea Show | The Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board and Miami-Dade County Goodwill Ambassadors assisted the city of Miami Beach during the high impact Memorial Day weekend and the Miami Beach Air & Sea Show. | |

Don’t forget to request a Vote-By-Mail ballot | Due to recent changes in Florida law, all requests for vote-by-mail ballots expired at the end of 2022 so any request on file with the Miami-Dade Elections Department has expired. If you wish to continue voting by mail you must make a new request, either online or by calling 305-499-8444. | |
Summer fun is just beginning at Zoo Miami. The Zoo Miami Foundation is offering summer camps for kids of various ages: Camp Little Critter for children ages 3-4; Summer Camp for ages 5-12; and Teen Careers Camp for ages 13-15. All camps take place at Zoo Miami and dates and times vary, depending on the camp. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Get more information here. Canine Champions for Conservation will run from June 8 to August 11 on Thursdays to Mondays. The show features a remarkable lineup of rescue dogs that will captivate audiences with their incredible talents and heartwarming stories. In addition to entertainment, the show promotes pet adoption and responsible pet ownership. Attendance at the show is included with zoo admission. More here information is available here. And the “Boots & Brews” event is scheduled for June 22 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. This event, for those 21 and over, will feature live music, activities, animal encounters, food, and drinks.
