Signaling a new era of collaboration, Metropolitan is partnering with the Delta Counties Coalition to jointly seek funding for Delta levee maintenance in California’s proposed climate resiliency bond. The agencies are requesting the inclusion of $250 million for the Delta Levee Maintenance Subventions Program, which reimburses local agencies for the upkeep and repair of the extensive levee network in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The historic collaboration was communicated in a sponsorship letter co-authored by Metropolitan board Chair Adán Ortega, Jr. and Patrick Hume, DCC chair.

By maintaining the Delta’s levees, the subventions program not only protects vital water supplies, infrastructure, transportation routes and energy corridors but also preserves the delicate balance of ecosystems and habitats within the region. With climate change and sea-level rise increasingly threatening the stability of this vital levee system, investing in proactive maintenance and improvements that meet modern levee standards advances the resilience of the Delta.

Throughout National Safety Month, Metropolitan affirmed its commitment to employee safety and to safeguarding our drinking water supply in emergency circumstances. Beginning with a June 6 employee safety fair at Lake Mathews, pictured above, we hosted a series of training and informational events at field sites throughout the district, including our water treatment facilities and pumping stations. We also conducted routine emergency training exercises at our Eagle Rock Emergency Operations Center.

Join us this weekend and be part of our water-wise movement as Metropolitan sponsors a local Pride event for the first time. We'll be at the San Fernando Valley Pride march and block party in Van Nuys on Saturday, June 29 handing out our saving water fans as we ask the public to take a conservation pledge to be water wise.

On Sunday, June 30, from 12:30 – 4 p.m., we'll be at the Fan Fest as part of Angel City Football Club’s Pride Night. Fan Fest is held at Christmas Tree Lane Park, north of BMO Stadium.  

Metropolitan’s Apprenticeship Program opens doors for aspiring mechanical and electrical technicians to learn the trade while joining our team. Apprentices who complete the four-and-a-half-year program earn a journey level certificate, 36 hours of college credit applicable toward an associate degree, and continued full-time employment at Metropolitan.

The application period for the program begins Friday, August 2 at 8 a.m. to Tuesday, August 27 at 4:30 p.m., or until 750 applications are received. Learn more.
