Jazz Tour Showcases
Hong Kong Artists to US Audiences
As a way of fostering cultural exchange between Hong Kong and the United States, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office marked the 25th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with a first-ever jazz tour of four major American cities (New York, Chicago, Washington DC and New Orleans) featuring an all-star band of Hong Kong’s finest and most respected players.
Led by Hong Kong natives Eugene Pao on guitar and Ted Lo on keyboards, the truly international crew includes Montreal-born bassist Sylvain Gagnon and Calcutta-born drummer Anthony Fernandes. Jazz trumpeter-composer Randy Brecker, a co-founder (with his sax playing late-brother Michael Brecker) of iconic ‘70s funk-fusion band The Brecker Brothers joined the Hong Kong musicians in their performance in New York.
The jazz tour will make stops at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York (Sept. 13), City Winery in Chicago (Sept. 14), Renwick Gallery of The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington
D.C. (Sept. 16) and the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the Crescent City (Sept. 17).
