Message from Bishop Barker

Beloved in Christ –

I write to share the news that I am on the slate of nominees who will stand for election to serve as the next Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. The names of the four nominees were made public today in an announcement to the larger Church by the Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop.

The journey that’s proceeded this announcement has been long and prayerful. It is a great honor to be considered for this office, and it has been with mixed emotions, that I’ve tried to balance a willingness to be open to the Spirit’s call with the fact that I cherish my ministry serving as your Bishop and the blessing of living and working in the place that has always been – and will always deeply be - my home. I love all of you and I love our Diocese of Nebraska.

Much discernment still lies before the Church. During the weeks remaining before the June 26th election, I ask that you pray for all four bishops who have been named to the slate of candidates, as well as for the House of Bishops who will seek to know God’s will before casting their ballots. In the meantime, my work alongside you continues. There is much to be excited about here in DioNeb, and much to celebrate as followers of Jesus in this Easter season.

I am so grateful for all of you. It is our work together, and the ways that you have shaped and formed me as a bishop, that has led to this invitation to serve the larger Church. While I am committed to the spiritual discipline of living in the moment (and I hope you’ll join me there), know that I will be working with your diocesan staff and elected leadership to plan and prepare for the future, wherever God might lead.

Thanks as always for your kindness and your prayers.

Faithfully Yours in Christ –
