I am deeply honored to serve as president during the 88th and 89th years of the Zonta Club of Burbank Area. This opportunity humbles me, as I follow in the footsteps of our past presidents who have paved the way. As we embark on the 2024-2026 biennium, I am excited to start strong and collaborate with all of you, our valued members and supporters.
Our community stands at a critical juncture, grappling with issues of gender equity and violence against women on a daily basis. Shockingly, child marriage persists right here in California. It's troubling to note that California is one of only four states in the nation without a minimum age for marriage, while the legal age for divorce stands at 18, trapping teenage girls in unwanted or abusive unions.
Yet, I see these challenges as pivotal opportunities for us to unite and effect meaningful change. By embracing the mission of Zonta International—to build a better world for women and girls—we can advocate for gender equality, combat gender-based violence, eradicate child marriage, and enhance access to education.
Undoubtedly, this work is demanding, but I believe it can also foster a stronger sense of community through fellowship and camaraderie. Alongside our core initiatives, we'll organize inspiring and enjoyable activities to bolster our community bonds. I invite each of you to join us in this vital work and revel in the warmth of friendship, for both are indispensable elements of a fulfilling life.
As we anticipate our 90th anniversary, let us remain committed to upholding our organization's legacy while also prioritizing civic and community impact, fundraising efforts, and effective governance. Join us as we continue our groundbreaking work supporting the City of Burbank in the implementation of a landmark city ordinance requiring an expanded list of local businesses to post information aiding victims of forced labor and sexual exploitation. There is important work to be done!
I extend an invitation to all to join us as members or supporters. Feel free to reach out anytime for a chat, a call, or a cup of coffee to explore how we can live out our mission, effect transformative change, and enjoy the journey together. I am genuinely thrilled for the path ahead of us.
All my best,
Lynn Lipinski
