Hello Beautiful People!!!
We have witnessed what happens when there is an intersection of being Black in America with Mental Health challenges associated with developmental disabilities. What we want for our families is equity in health care and health access.
The burden of stress of navigating resources is real for Black families. It is essential that we access resources for ourselves as parents so that we may be healthy and whole to care for our families at our best.
Everyday I take a 30 minute walk after the kid leaves for school, it rejuvenates my mind and body and prepares me for the day. Shout out to the moms who hold it down working, caring for the family and trying to find time to care for ourselves. If you can't take a walk, listen to a blog, a little bit of Frankie Beverly & Maze that is guaranteed to get you moving or listen to an audio book. I just added In My Grandmother’s House: Black Women, Faith, and the Stories We Inherit to my Audible list.
We included a few meditation resources but also look into support groups through CA Black Women’s Health Project, Black Women for Wellness, Black Mental Health Task Force, NAMI and if you or a family member are having mental health crisis 988 is a new hotline that can assist.
While caring for our families let's make sure Momma, Maunties and the women in the family are well cared for as well. Happy Mothers Day!! Celebrating mommas 365!!
