Respiratory Viruses in Community Menominee Tribal Clinic PSA

July 12, 2024

We are almost half way through summer and we hope everyone is having a fun and safe time during these warmer months. Even though it is summer, we can still see illness occurring throughout a community. At this time, there has been a noted increase of respiratory related illnesses, one of them being COVID.

To keep ourselves and loved ones safe, there are some things we can do to minimize and prevent further spread to others.

These are steps you can take to protect yourself and others:

  • Stay up to date with immunizations
  • Practice good hygiene (practices that improve cleanliness of self and home)
  • Take steps for cleaner air (open windows, move activities outdoors)
  • When you may have a respiratory virus:
  • Use precautions to prevent spread (mask, stay home)
  • Seek health care promptly for testing and/or treatment if you have risk factors for severe illness; treatment may help lower your risk of severe illness

You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:

  • Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
  • You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
  • When you go back to your normal activities, take added precaution over the next 5 days (masking, social distancing)

*REMINDER*: When coming into the clinic, if you or someone within your household is sick, we ask that you apply a mask when entering the building. This ensures anyone who may be at risk for severe infections is not potentially exposed, and will also protect staff from illness so that we may continue to provide care to all.

The clinic still has free home COVID tests available at the front doors.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) trainers are individuals who are equipped to help support children, ages 0-17, who have experienced traumatic events such as violence, abuse or neglect, growing up in a household with substance abuse issues, mental health problems, instability due to parental separation, etc.

A workgroup was established to help bring ACE Master Training to our community. The two-day training gave our community 15 new trainers, 12 of whom are employed by the Tribe and the County.

Thank you to the workgroup for making these opportunities available and thank you to those who are officially certified. Your work will help bring more services to our Tribe!
