Memorial Weekend in Mackinaw City

Mackinaw City is a great place to spend your Memorial Weekend!

Start your weekend by viewing the Mackinaw City Memorial Parade – the largest in the state. Experience the thrill of bands, salute the honored veterans, and watch as floats, queens, clowns, and the Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant Cast in costume parade through downtown Mackinaw City on Saturday, May 27 at 1:00 pm.

Don't miss the Scottville Clown Band pre-parade performance at 11:00 am in the Mackinac Crossings.

Follow the parade route below for best viewing opportunities.

This year's parade will honor Robert J. Fisher, owner of the Pancake Chef, who passed away in November of 2022. Bob, instrumental in conceptualizing and spearheading the first Memorial Parade in Mackinaw City, was the chairperson of the parade committee for over 50 years. Through Bob's dedication and many contributions to Mackinaw City, future generations of community members, and visitors are able to gather and enjoy the Grand Memorial Parade each year.

After the parade, you'll want to be sure to head to Fort Michilimackinac for the 59th Annual Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment at 3:30 pm on Saturday, and at 2:30 pm on both Sunday and Monday. The events will bring to life the 1763 Fort Michilimackinac battle and explore the relationships between the French, British, and Anishinaabe.

The stage is at the original location of Fort Michilimackinac, now known as Colonial Michilimackinac, operated by the Mackinac State Historic Parks. Entrance to the free reenactment can be found at the western gate of Colonial Michilimackinac as you round the corner onto Louvigny Street. *Paid entry to Colonial Michilimackinac is under the Mackinac Bridge on Nicolet Street.

Throughout the weekend, you can experience the Michilimackinac Voyageurs' 18th Century Fashion Show, a demonstration of 18th-century firearms, a knife and tomahawk throwing competition, children's games, and fireside activities while catching the reenactment any of the three days.

Finally, on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, we will pause to remember and honor the departed friends and relatives at the Memorial Day Service at Conkling Heritage Park near the Municipal Marina at 10:00 am, across from the American Legion Post 159.
