A Letter from the Director...

Hello friends, I thought this month I would share one of my favorite personal photos from this summer. Here it is, a beautiful image of a small airplane, flying through the summer air. The day I took this photo I felt uncertain, scared, and excited all at the same time. Why would these feelings overcome me, it is just an airplane? Yes, it is an airplane. It is an airplane that my middle school-aged son was flying for the first time with the assistance of a trained pilot.
When I look at this picture and remember that day, it reminds me that I am not alone in the emotions I felt that day and other days as well. As a community we are experiencing similar emotions as we "fly" through this challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of us feel uncertain as a new school year approaches, scared that the fall may bring a resurgence of the virus, and excited to return to doing the things we enjoy as soon as it is safe. We are in this together.

While library services are not back to normal, the staff of the Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity is working hard to ensure we are still able to meet the community's needs. In an effort to be more than reactive, this fall the library will begin the process to create a new strategic plan to guide our work from 2021 -2025. This plan requires input from the community and the staff, along with research and analysis. We look forward to working with you to ensure that our strategic plan is an accurate reflection of our patrons' voices.
The second half of 2020 will look different to the community as so many of our traditional library programs and events will not take place. I am saddened to announce that the library's largest fundraiser, Touch A Truck is cancelled for October 2020. We look forward to hosting the event in 2021 and hope we can count on your support. In the meantime, consider supporting the library by purchasing a lottery calendar (winners to be drawn in October) for $10. Tickets are available at the library. Please visit our website for more information: www.nazarethlibrary.org.

Remember, the library staff aims to support you as you seek work, navigate online schooling, educate yourself about antiracism or look for ways to find connections and positivity in an uncertain world. Be assured that you can count on the library! Henry Ford once said, "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that aircrafts take off against the wind, not with it."

I look forward to seeing you at the Library!
