2021 MassAHU Legislative Summary

MassAHU's Legislative Chair, Eric Gulko has been working with our lobbyists at Beacon Hill Consulting Group to ensure our member's needs are being heard.

The 2021-2022 Legislative Session

The new legislative biennium commenced in January 2021, and the deadline for legislators to file legislation with the respective House/Senator clerk’s office was pushed back from January 15th to February 19th this session due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each piece of legislation was assigned a House or Senate bill number and referred to a Joint Committee. Our office went through all the 6,500 bills that were filed by the February 19th deadline to identify the bills of interest to MassAHU. All bills filed are subject to public hearings which have been underway since Spring 2021 and will continue until February 2, 2022, when the legislative rules require Joint Committees to report on all bills before them.

Our office has identified and followed approximately 160 bills of interest since the beginning of the current session. We tracked and followed the bills and provided ongoing updates to MassAHU. Additionally, our office provided individualized legislative packets for each of the six MassAHU legislative teams with bills tailored toward that committee’s area of interest. Throughout the past year, the legislature has been holding public hearings on these bills, and our office provided overviews of the bills of interest being heard prior to each individual hearing. We covered each hearing and provided an update memo to MassAHU including a synopsis of the testimony of various interest groups that testified.
