It's hard to believe we're halfway through March, but here we are! I want to thank you for renewing your membership in PEP. Your support makes our mission and programming possible.


This month, the City of Mobile announced the master plan for Brookley by the Bay and PEP members heard personally about these plans and more from our March breakfast speaker, Jim DeLapp, the Executive Director of Public Works. You can read more about the final plan and the emphasis on connecting on our community to our environment below.


Speaking of the environment, the deadline for our 2023 Environmental Stewardship Awards is fast approaching. Your company may have a great project worthy of submission and you don't even know it! Organizations of all sizes are encourage to apply and I am happy to be a resource to you. If you have any questions about the process or need any guidance, please reach out to me. All submissions are due by March 31st.


Registration is now open for several events, including our first PEP Sporting Clay Shoot and the 23rd Annual Golf Tournament. We've also announced dates and details for more PEP events. Follow the links below for more details - I hope to see you at an event soon!

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR PEP'S INAUGURAL CLAY SHOOT


We're excited to host the first PEP Sporting Clay Shoot! Come enjoy an afternoon of food, shooting, and prizes with your colleagues and customers. We will have 20 shooting teams competing.

We're excited to welcome Daniel Capers with the Tennessee Valley Training Center as our April Lunch and Learn speaker! Daniel will be discussing his topic, Why Workplace Training is Necessary. This series is free for PEP members.


The event will begin at noon and will consist of a 30-minute presentation with time for Q&A at the end of the presentation. Seating is limited - reserve your spot at the link below.

A CAUSE TO CLEAN - APRIL 28TH AT MONTLIMAR CREEK


Join other PEP members in A Cause to Clean: Montlimar Creek Clean-Up!


We are asking companies to encourage their employees to volunteer on Friday, April 28, 2023, starting at 1 p.m., to pick up litter along Montlimar Creek. The event is organized and sponsored by PEP, Hampton Inn Mobile I-65, Osprey Initiative, Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, and Dog River Clearwater Revival. Vests, gloves, garbage bags and pickers will be provided.

DON'T MISS OUR AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES


Time is running out and these deadlines will be here before you know it. March 31st is the last day to apply for:


2023 PEP Environmental Stewardship Awards - Since 2005, PEP has presented annual awards to recognize PEP members whose work has made a significant and positive contribution to the Gulf Coast region in three crucial areas: economic growth, environmental health and social responsibility. Businesses of all sizes can submit their projects. The winners will be recognized at the PEP Annual Meeting on September 7, 2023. Learn more and download an application on our website.


2023 PEP Science and Technology Scholarship - If you or your children are attending college or graduate school, be sure to consider the PEP scholarship program! This scholarship is designated for local employees of PEP member companies and dependents. The application for the 2023 PEP Scholarship is open from December 1, 2022 through March 31, 2023. CITY OF MOBILE UNVEILS BROOKLEY BY THE BAY MASTER PLAN


The city of Mobile released the collective vision for Brookley by the Bay, the 98-acre waterfront part along Mobile Bay's western shore - and PEP member companies Volkert, Moffatt & Nichol, and Thompson Engineering were part of the design team. The final plan represents a collective vision , guided by input from community members, local stakeholder organizations, and project partners.


Mayor Sandy Stimpson says, "From tidal flats and marshes to forested wetlands and shallow lagoons, the biodiversity and natural beauty of the waterfront will be the true centerpiece of this park."

TC BOILER & PIPING NAMED FIRST LITTER-FREE LEADER OF THE YEAR


PEP Member TC Boiler & Piping was presented with the first Litter-Free Leader of the Year award at the recent Mobile Chamber annual meeting. John Barton, CEO of TC Boiler & Piping, accepted the award on behalf of the company. TC Boiler was selected because they sponsored “A Cause to Clean” to help clean up the western Causeway. The company teamed up with Partners for Environmental Progress and the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program for the event. In addition to the Causeway cleanup, TC Boiler employees have also participated in PEP Mobile’s Trash Blows campaign along with the City of Mobile.


Litter-Free Leaders are named each quarter and a Litter-Free Leader of the Year is announced at the Mobile Chamber's annual State of the City and County event. Read more.
