June 2024

League of Women Voters members are invited to join us for our 2024 State Assembly on August 10, when we will convene to coordinate our work for the coming year.

There are more than 40 local Leagues throughout Illinois, and we all need to be well-prepared for the November 2024 election and the challenges it presents to our democracy.

Most state Leagues hold a statewide planning meeting in non-Convention years, and we’re bringing the tradition back in Illinois! Since this is not a Convention, there are no officer elections, bylaws amendments, or budget reviews. We will use this opportunity to connect and focus on crucial actions to take in the coming months. This is a hybrid event—join us virtually or in person.

TONIGHT! How to Talk to People Who Disagree With You Politically

Dr. Gina M. Masullo joins us Wednesday, June 19, at 7:00 pm via Zoom to discuss research-backed approaches for navigating digital spaces—and offline spaces—with people who disagree with you politically.

Their talk will provide tangible takeaways for you to apply in your own life to be more open to other viewpoints without compromising your values.

Celebrating Juneteenth and Pride Month

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, and today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved people in the United States.

We've been excited to see Leagues across the state joining in these celebrations! Pictured above, LWVIL and LWV Chicago partnered up at the Beverly Morgan Park Juneteenth Family Festival on June 15, and LWV Aurora Area marched in Aurora’s Pride Parade on June 9.
