April 26 - Plant Exchange
Neighbors have made inquiries! ...and yes, the plant exchange is coming up! Your neighbors are potting up succulents, cacti, herbs and vegetables to share. We encourage everyone to share from their garden.
Sprouts Farmers Market
at 1st Avenue has again partnered with the neighborhood to help celebrate Spring. They are supplying a plant and a gift certificate to the store for our free raffle at the April meeting.

Unruly Gathering Reports - Red Tags
|
The Red Tag Committee of Jefferson Park has been tracking the number of calls per month vs the number of red tags issued. The information is provided by the TPD red tag unit. All calls and tags get friendly letters. Receivers of those letters have responded letting us know of errors and omissions.
January 2016--8 calls,one red tag 2017--2 calls, one red tag
February 2016--7 calls, no red tag 2017--6 calls, no red tag
Note about Feb 2017: Of the six callers, only one gave their name or asked for follow up. Two of the calls were on separate days about the same address. You may request to have follow-up by telephone and not for officers to come to your door.

Jefferson Park Entrance Signs
The sign project is now on hold. The sign committee is doing more research on the cost of the signs.

Little Free Library
The cacti are gone and the a
rea is cleaned up. The back wall is PURPLE. Jefferson Park will have the most unique Little Free Library in all of Tucson!
We can't wait to announce the arrival of the library. Seems a celebration might be in order.

The next clean-up at Edison Plaza (corner of Edison and Campbell) is Saturday, March18th. Come help out, the more hands the better! We have bags from Tucson Clean and Beautiful. Meet at 9am. Bring along a hula hoe if you have one!

Roll-Offs: Arrive March 31st and leave April 3

Thinking of buying a new mattress? Here's a good place for the old one. Roll-offs will be delivered on March 31 and removed on April 3rd. You will find them at the locations listed below:

Buffelgrass spotted in the neighborhood

Buffelgrass is a nasty invasive grass that has been
classified as a noxious weed by the
state of Arizona. Buffelgrass has been spotted in the alley near Edison Park, and it is likely in other parts of the neighborhood as well.
You are required to remove buffelgrass from your yard. Learn more about the

UA Mortar Board community service took on two properties in Jefferson Park on March 4

Annually the UA Mortar board students stream into neighborhoods and clean and beautify spaces. The volunteer work at homes of elderly or disabled folks is especially appreciated.

| The International School 2017 Science Fair featured 44 projects by students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Do you ever wonder if there are more pets in homes with children or in homes with only adults? They do. |

Every good science fair needs impartial judges! Thank you Jefferson Park judges: Helen Edmonds, Colleen Nichols, and Joan Daniels. And thanks to the Old Ft Lowell neighborhood for judges Carol and Mike. The UA student judges filled out the corps. Congratulations to the students at IST and their science teacher Jaime Kinnia.

The City of Tucson named David Burbank, CPM, P.E., as Engineer Project Manager for the Phase 2 work. Markham Contracting has been selected as the contractor. Construction of Phase 2 is expected to take approximately 13 months.
Phase 2 Project Features
- 6 vehicular travel lanes
- Protected bike/pedestrian street crossings including a 6th Avenue pedestrian signal
- Drainage improvements near 1st Avenue
- Indirect left turns at Stone Avenue and 1st Avenue
- Bike lanes
- Wide sidewalks
- Transit accommodations including pullouts and shelters
- Water harvesting and other sustainability features

This plaque will soon reappear back on the Campbell Access wall. Created in 2004 when the wall was constructed, it acknowledges the work of neighbor Doug Denniston. Doug was a long time resident of Jefferson Park and an art professor at the University of Arizona. The plaque had been recently ripped off by vandals.
Banner Health, who are taking over the stewardship of the parklet at the south end of Campbell Access is replacing the plaque. We thank Abigail Byrd for facilitation the return of the important icon.

Notice to JP Neighbors in the southeast-TEP putting up poles:
Last week, Tucson Electric Power (TEP) began preparing to install new power poles and underground electrical facilities west of Campbell Ave. on North Ring Road, North Martin Road, and south of East Elm Street. Digging is anticipated to continue until March 3 by Diversified Design and Construction, TEP's hand-digging contractor. New electrical poles are expected to be hauled and staged near installation sites during the week of March 6. TEP expects to install new poles the week of March 20. Work schedules are subject to change. This work will accommodate the expansion of Banner University Medical Center.

Free Tax Preparation at Ward III
|
United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides free tax preparation for households and individuals earning up to $64,000. The program ensures taxpayers receive all credits for which they may be eligible, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can equal as much as 50 percent of a family's annual earnings.
