Meet the family of Pasquale Librandi. The family's farm, Azienda Agricola Librandi Pasquale is located in Vaccarizzo Albanese in Cosenza, Calabria. With 27,000 trees and a mill on the property, the Librandi family is able to mill their olives within four hours of picking.

The Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Tenute Librandi have had a great year. The monocultivar selection Nocellara del Belice was just granted a Gold Medal and Best of Show/Class at the Los Angeles Competition, followed by a Gold Medal at New York. The farm also recieved a score of 98/100  by Flos Olei 2017.

Nocellara del Belice, most often a Sicilian cultivar, yields extra virgin olive oil that is green with golden yellow hues. The aroma is strong and rotund. You'll note rich fruity characteristics of ripe tomato, banana, and white apple, with hints of basil, and mint. Complex and vegetale; some note celery, lettuce, and broad beans, finishing with characteristic bitterness and pungency. Certified Organic.

Excellent with tomato bruschetta, swordfish, lentil soups, pasta with meat sauce, game, and aged cheese.

The cultivar Carolea is a fine representation of the traditions of Calabria.
Carolea, common to Calabria and the south of Italy, is yellow with green hues. The aroma brings forth definitive notes of fresh olives, tomato and hints of green almond. Rich and buttery.  The oil is round, harmonious and balanced with both bitter and spicy notes. Some note artichoke characteristics. The finish has notes of almond. Certified Organic.  This year Carolea was awarded Gambero Rosso, Foglie Rosse, 2017.

Recommended with grilled fish, pasta, steamed vegetables, and aged cheeses.

The Librandi Family
Following the death of their father in 2013, the Librandi siblings have stepped up and continued the family business in his honor.

We'd like to introduce you to the family members,
left to right, in this photo:

Pino - the troubleshooting manager. Each morning he opens the farm gates and gives directions to the workers in accordance with Michele. He's responsible for the farm machinery fleet and also manages the family's butchery business.

Carmela - the business controller. She helps with the sales and administration; she's the historical memory of the company, trampling the soil of the mill since she was 5 years old.

Lucia - the PR rep. She controls Social Media and promotion activity, working together with Carmela in sales, business and administration. She's also a taster.

Angela - the master miller, taster (assaggiatrice) and panel-leader. Angela is completely responsible for the milling, tasting, and blending of the extra virgin olive oils.

Michele - the agronomist, the specialist in olive growing. Michele personally oversees programs for plant organic nutrition and control of plant diseases, irrigation, pruning, harvesting and other grove management practices. He works in about 400 acres on multiple plots in the area, all owned by Tenute Librandi Pasquale Soc. Agr.

Mamma Maria Luisa - the queen of the kitchen. Mamma still prepares lunch for the family, especially during the week, and has always encouraged words for her five children. Unfortunately, we do not have a picture of Mamma, but we are sure she adores this photo of her children!
