International Social Service-USA (ISS-USA) Welcomes a New Board Member: Mr. Mark Greenberg of Migration Policy Institute




The International Social Service-USA (ISS-USA) staff is excited to welcome Mark Greenberg to the ISS-USA Board of Directors. Mr. Greenberg currently works as a Senior Fellow at the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) in Washington, DC. His work focuses on the intersections of migration policy with human services and social welfare policies.

From 2009-17, Mr. Greenberg worked at the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He served as ACF Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy from 2009-13; Acting Commissioner for the Administration for Children, Youth, and Families from 2013-15; and Acting Assistant Secretary from 2013-17. ACF includes the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which has responsibility for the refugee resettlement and unaccompanied children program, and has a strong research agenda relating to the programs under its jurisdiction. Among these are a wide range of human services programs, including Head Start, child care, child support, child welfare, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

Previously, Mr. Greenberg was Executive Director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty, Inequality, and Public Policy, a joint initiative of the Georgetown Law Center and Georgetown Public Policy Institute. In addition, he previously was Executive Director of the Center for American Progress' Task Force on Poverty, and the Director of Policy for the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP). He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and was a legal services lawyer in Florida and California for ten years after graduating law school.

Cross Border Mediation Conference



A full agenda is now available  for our day-long conference,  Cross-Border Family Mediation: Dispute Resolution for International Families In Your Community  on June 5, 2018 in Washington, D.C., co-hosted by  International Social Service-USA  (ISS-USA),  MK Family Law ,  The George Washington University School of Law , and  Leslie Ellen Shear, Attorney and Counselor at Law . This event will bring together leading experts to discuss mediation as a key process to help cross-border families with their complex situations. Scheduled one day prior to the annual  AFCC Conference  in D.C., conference attendees will have a wealth of resources and excellent networking opportunities at their finger-tips.

Repatriation Program Assists A Veteran In Need 

Mr. Gregory Peters* was a 76-year old U.S. citizen and veteran needing to return to the U.S. from Italy. He was in need of medical care and his family were unable to assist him upon his return to the U.S., so ISS-USA, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, coordinated Mr. Peter's reception and resettlement to the U.S. Upon returning to the U.S, Mr. Peters was assigned to a social worker who will oversee his hospital discharge and long-term care plans.
