Get to Know Father Galante
What do you prefer to be called?
I would like to be called Fr. Galante.
You were recently ordained as a priest. How is life different now?
It is a world of difference. Celebrating Mass, the sacraments, and living the priesthood is a wonderful blessing and a gift. It is something you think a lot about in seminary, but it’s like stepping into a new identity. It is a true blessing to get to know people as a priest.
What were your thoughts when you received your assignment to SJV?
I was pleasantly surprised. I am very happy to be here and to have the opportunity to work with Fr. Jerry Herda and Fr. John LoCoco. I am most looking forward to getting to know the people of the parish.
What are some of your hobbies? How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to cook. Some of my favorite cuisines are French foods and Mexican food, but I am open to trying all different kinds of cuisines and flavors. I enjoy reading, traveling, and gardening. I also like to sing. In fact, I played the Cowardly Lion in a high school production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
What do you feel is your mission or calling as a priest?
I am here to serve the parish and to encourage a deeper faith in Christ. That is my primary mission. I want to inspire people to come to the church and follow Christ. I want to love people, get to know them, and lead them to Christ.
When did you first feel a calling to the priesthood? How did you decide that the priesthood was the right thing for you to devote your life to?
In a brief answer: I had epilepsy in middle school, and that really changed how I looked at life. I started thinking about things differently and I knew that I wanted my life to be about other people. From then on, living a life of service was something that I thought about a lot. I don’t remember thinking about being a priest until high school, and around 15 years old I began to consider it more seriously.
While in college, I was in a period of heavy discernment and reflection. My sophomore year, I participated in a discernment retreat. I entered seminary during my senior year of college. It took me a while to discern if I was called to the priesthood, but I placed my trust in God, with faith that he would lead me to the correct path.
