Our new Associate Pastor is here! Please join us in welcoming Fr. Zachary Galante. We are holding a welcome reception and meet-and-greet in the Narthex after the 9 AM Mass on Sunday, June 30, his first Sunday Mass at SJV. Make sure you stay after Mass (or come early to the 11 AM Mass) to introduce yourself and give Fr. Galante a warm welcome to St. John Vianney!

Get to Know Father Galante

What do you prefer to be called?

I would like to be called Fr. Galante.

You were recently ordained as a priest. How is life different now?

It is a world of difference. Celebrating Mass, the sacraments, and living the priesthood is a wonderful blessing and a gift. It is something you think a lot about in seminary, but it’s like stepping into a new identity. It is a true blessing to get to know people as a priest.

What were your thoughts when you received your assignment to SJV?

I was pleasantly surprised. I am very happy to be here and to have the opportunity to work with Fr. Jerry Herda and Fr. John LoCoco. I am most looking forward to getting to know the people of the parish.

What are some of your hobbies? How do you like to spend your free time?

I like to cook. Some of my favorite cuisines are French foods and Mexican food, but I am open to trying all different kinds of cuisines and flavors. I enjoy reading, traveling, and gardening. I also like to sing. In fact, I played the Cowardly Lion in a high school production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

What do you feel is your mission or calling as a priest?

I am here to serve the parish and to encourage a deeper faith in Christ. That is my primary mission. I want to inspire people to come to the church and follow Christ. I want to love people, get to know them, and lead them to Christ.

When did you first feel a calling to the priesthood? How did you decide that the priesthood was the right thing for you to devote your life to?

In a brief answer: I had epilepsy in middle school, and that really changed how I looked at life. I started thinking about things differently and I knew that I wanted my life to be about other people. From then on, living a life of service was something that I thought about a lot. I don’t remember thinking about being a priest until high school, and around 15 years old I began to consider it more seriously.

While in college, I was in a period of heavy discernment and reflection. My sophomore year, I participated in a discernment retreat. I entered seminary during my senior year of college. It took me a while to discern if I was called to the priesthood, but I placed my trust in God, with faith that he would lead me to the correct path.

July 4 - Offices Closed

Our Parish Office will be closed on Independence Day. There will be no 7 AM Mass. Mass will instead take place at 9 AM.

Mass Stipends

Effective July 1st, Mass intention stipend fees will be raised from $10 to $20 per the Archdiocese. All intentions paid for on or after July 1st will be asked to pay the $20 stipend. This fee goes directly to the priest who offers your intention.

SJV Helping Hands

A special thanks to the ten youth who participated in the local youth mission this week, making a difference!

They helped at several places. The Open Door Cafe, Soles for Jesus, Hunger Task Force, St Bakhita Catholic Worker House, Zachariah‘s Acres, Cathedral Center and spent the last day at St John Vianney Parish mulching and planting flowers. A special thanks to the adult leaders: Janlyn Carvalho, Dave Baudry, and Tanya Baynes.

St. Vincent de Paul Summer Lunch Program

Our St. Vincent de Paul conference will again be participating in the Summer Lunch Program. This Waukesha SVDP Council program is available at 3 sites around Waukesha providing lunches to children after school has recessed for the summer. We will be making and delivering lunches to Casa De Esperanza on July 1, 2, and 3.

Donations of single-wrapped desserts and juice packets, such as Capri Sun, would be greatly appreciated to keep our cost down. Donations can be dropped off at the SVDP pantry in the Narthex next to the kitchen. Thank you!
