David Brandon has devoted his professional life to promoting the use of mediation and other collaborative approaches to address and resolve conflict. Since his admission to the California State Bar in 1990, David has worked in the ADR field in a variety of roles – as a mediator, facilitator, case manager, program manager and director – in both non-profit and for-profit settings. He served as a volunteer mediator and trainer for Conciliation Forums of Oakland and Berkeley Dispute Resolution Services.
For the past ten years, he has served as Managing Director of the JAMS Foundation, which provides financial support for conflict prevention and dispute resolution initiatives across the U.S. and around the world.
These initiatives have included its highly-successful Community Mediation Mini-Grant Program which provides funding for multiple pilot projects in specific areas of demonstrated need and creates resources for more than 400 local centers across North America.
In addition, they've awarded multi-year grants for Zoom licenses to expand the reach of local centers and access for those unable to attend mediations in person due to age, disability, distance, or other factors.
David is a true believer in the power and promise of community mediation and a passionate advocate for its use in fostering understanding between parties in conflict and providing a safe space for them to navigate and resolve their disputes.
Along with his ADR work, David spent several years as a residential gardener and landscaper, focusing on garden design, garden renovation, and creative stonework. He currently lives in Berkeley, California with his longtime sweetheart, Ann, and their dogs, Otter and Freja.
