Q&A

Was there a moment you knew your career path would be a musical one?

I grew up as part of a musical family, both of my parents, brothers, uncles, aunties, cousins were musicians. With my dad being a pastor of his church his music department, my family filled the roles of organ, guitar, choir, and choirmaster. I gravitated toward the drums and I knew at a very young age that music would be a huge part of my life. Though, I never knew that it would be a career of this magnitude.

How has your heritage influenced your music career? What does your heritage mean to you?

My heritage has had a huge influence on my career. Being black, I have realized that a huge part of my influences across the world has been pulled from my culture - more specifically Africa. With being a drummer those rhythm elements come naturally to me, others often are taught. My heritage and ancestral background is the foundation of who I am as a musician and has played a huge part in my career.

Do you have a favorite music piece that you like to perform? Who is your favorite musician?

This is a difficult two-part question... So I'll answer it this way. Stevie Wonder is my favorite musician and he has influenced my life in many ways. Of course, my favorite piece of music to perform is “Contusion” from the “Songs In The Key of Life” album.

How important do you think musical experiences are in bridging cultures?

I think it's very important to bridge cultures in music and it's also important to understand our musical origins. I heard as a kid “…there’s nothing new under the sun”, so to research study all genres of music is vital. Music is the universal language that can allow love to flow through the world.

What’s next for you? Are there any new projects we can look forward to in the near future?

Since the pandemic came upon us, I’ve become more of a studio head. Creating with no boundaries, I have tons of music ready to be released. "Fonthill Vol.2." (The sequel of my debut EP, "Fonthill Vol. 1”) will be released this spring/summer, along with tons of other co-production projects.
