Assistant Professor Paul Crovella wrote a letter to the editor encouraging Micron to use mass timber in the construction of their new facility in Cicero.



Graduate student Sam Krebs, Pollinator Ecologist Molly Jacobson, and Senior Research Associate Michael Schummer representing the ESF Restoration Science Center wrote Going Native for Wildlife with Staghorn Sumac in the June/July issue of New York Conservationist.


ESF researchers T.D. Morris, Dr. John Drake, and Dr. Melissa Fierke published Factors affecting distribution of emerald ash borer parasitoids in an urban environment in the journal Landscape and Urban Planning.


Dr. Yaqi You made the inside front cover of RSC Environmental Science: Nano Journal for her group's article – Emerging investigator series: Differential effects of carbon nanotubes and graphene on the tomato rhizosphere microbiome – on how carbon nanotube and graphene alter the rhizosphere microbial community of tomato plants.

ESF Research Featured on Journal Cover

Drs. Gyu Leem and Chang Geun Yoo made the cover of RSC Energy’s Sustainable Energy & Fuels Journal for their article – Solar energy driven C–C bond cleavage in a lignin model compound with a D–π–A organic dye-sensitized photoanode – on how woody waste converts to alternative petrochemical using sustainable solar energy.

Shout out to ESF’s Communications and Marketing team for taking home seven awards – four first place and three second place – for excellence in strategy, creativity, design, and feature writing!


The Awards for Excellence from the SUNY Council for University Advancement are judged by a panel of SUNY peers, and more than 160 entries were submitted this year from across SUNY's 64 institutions. OCM’s wins include:

Visit with friends, meet ESF’s talented graduate students, and enjoy a wall full of CNY’s best local craft beers plus food from the Bold Coast Lobster truck. The $10 entry fee covers two drink tickets. Food must be purchased individually. Pre-registration is required.

Nominate Graduate of Distinction

Do you know an outstanding ESF alumnus who deserves to be recognized for their achievements? Nominate them for a 2023 Graduate of Distinction Award, which is presented at December Commencement.

 

The ESF Alumni Association is seeking nominations in three categories:

 

  • Lifetime Achievement: Alumni who have or will soon end their active careers
  • Notable Achievement: Alumni who are in the early to mid-point of their careers
  • Incipiens Quercu: “Beginning Oak" for alumni who have graduated within the last decade or so demonstrating their commitment to ESF's environmental stewardship through their professional and/or volunteer work

Nominations can also be submitted on paper to the Graduate of Distinction Award Committee, c/o the Alumni Office, 219 Bray Hall.
