SHAKESPEARE THEATRE OF NEW JERSEY’S EDUCATION DEPARTMENT INTRODUCES "SHAKESPEARE’S PLAYHOUSE" PROGRAM FOR 2024

Madison, NJ - The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Education Department (STNJ) is excited to announce its latest offering for 2024: the Shakespeare’s Playhouse program. These fantastically fun, half-day sessions are designed to be a lively and engaging entrance into the world of theatre and “stage magic” for younger students.

“I honestly believe that theatre, specifically Shakespeare, can be one of the most useful (and fun) ways for students to explore and express their individual creative potential, while also providing all sorts of opportunities for expanding their self-awareness, sharpening their language and communication skills,  their social awareness, and their collaboration skills.  Our new Shakespeare’s Playhouse programs will hopefully provide all of this and more for students who might not be ready to dive into a full production or just want to explore something fun and new without the pressure to perform.  I’m also really excited to finally be offering something for our youngest artists!”  - Director of Education, Doug West

MIDSUMMER MAGIC (Ages 6-9):

Drawing inspiration from one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies, our Midsummer Magicians will immerse themselves in the enchanting world of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. From July 29th to August 2nd, budding fairies and hobgoblins will embark on a week-long journey, delving into the play through a series of improvisational games, character development exercises, and hands-on arts and crafts sessions with props and costumes. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., promising a magical experience for all - and there’s no previous theatre experience required!

WITCHES AND WARRIORS (Ages 10-12):

"By the pricking of our thumbs, something wicked this way comes..." In the Witches and Warriors program, adventurers aged 10 to 12 will delve into the magical and intriguing world of Shakespeare's Macbeth. Through an array of theatre games, do-it-yourself prop and costume crafting, stage combat instruction, and ensemble-building activities, participants will explore the mysteries of one of Shakespeare's most iconic works - and there’s no previous theatre experience required!

Theatre is for everyone, and Shakespeare’s Playhouse is a great place to start.  Whether frolicking with fairies or wandering the Scottish woods filled with witches and warriors, there’s something for everyone this summer as a part of our Shakespeare Corps.
