April 2024

Principal's Note

Dear Families,

Believe it or not, we are nearing the end of the 2023-24 school year. The weather is starting to make it feel like summer is coming, but there are still lots of academic activities coming including NWEA, M-STEP and Mi-Access assessments. With the end of the year academic push also come the end of the year celebrations!

Keep an eye out for special event invitations for upcoming events including the Prom Dance on Friday, May 10 and the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 22. For more information, contact your child’s classroom teacher or the Meadowview Office at 517.541.8750.

April is the month when we celebrate Autism Acceptance and the Week of the Young Child

A word about praise. Among educators, there have been many discussions and opinions about praise and how to use it effectively. Some theorists recommend no praise, some say only some praise and others encourage praise given in a certain way.

Throughout our years in education, we have found students benefit from praise-we all do! We believe in giving praise in a meaningful way. Saying "good job" doesn't cut it, students need to know why they are being praised. By simply adding the task for which the child is being praised, for example “good job for choosing the right color" or "good job for reading that sentence" it ties meaning to the praise and makes it more meaningful.

Parents, we want to thank you and say job well done with your students! We appreciate being able to work with your family on a daily basis, and thank you for all of your hard work. We look forward to the remainder of the school year and celebrating all of the accomplishments with your family!

Sincerely,

Dr. Sarah Parker and Ms. Paige Rife

Classroom Spotlight: EI Classroom

Our Elementary EI class had a blast learning about the butterfly life cycle!

We raised eight caterpillars, five of which made it to adulthood and were released. We learned what caterpillars and butterflies need to survive and even made dioramas of dream butterfly gardens, complete with plants for food, bushes for shelter and puddling stations for water and nutrients!

Our class hosted a butterfly science show inviting the rest of Meadowview to admire our butterflies and hear what we have learned.
