National Assistant Principals Week, April 1–5, 2024, is a celebration of the unsung heroes in our education system. These dedicated folks work tirelessly to bolster teachers, motivate students, support their principal, create a positive learning community, and face the many unpredictable challenges that land on their desk.

Assistant Principals play a crucial role, and this week is a dedicated time to recognize them for their hard work and commitment to our schools, students, and profession. Please join us in celebrating these incredible school leaders!

National Paraprofessional Appreciation Day

April 3, 2024

In the education world, paraprofessionals may take on all sorts of roles. Sometimes called instructional assistants, teachers aides, or simply “paras”, paraprofessional educators perform a number of different duties that go along with teaching, whether in groups or one-on-one with students. This could include providing instructional, behavioral or other types of support inside and outside the classroom.

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day was founded with the idea of honoring those who serve in these roles that go alongside others, often without a great deal of glory.

We are blessed to have the very best paraprofessional staff! They exhibit passion, care, professionalism, flexibility, kindness, and so much more every single day.

Please join us in saying THANK YOU for their immeasurable contribution to our McNeil community.

On April 8th, there will be a spectacular total eclipse of the sun. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event in our area. We are so excited that this event is happening during a school day so that we can share the excitement - and SCIENCE - with our students. McKinney ISD has provided solar eclipse glasses for every student and staff member. All classes will go outside to view the eclipse.

If you do not want your child to view the eclipse outdoors, please complete the Opt Out Form. All students will participate in outdoor activities unless parents opt out using the form. If your student is allowed to participate, there is nothing you need to do or fill out. The form is only for students not participating outdoors. Students opting out will have the option of viewing the eclipse on a livestream or not viewing at all. If you have more than one child who will not be participating, please complete a separate Opt Out Form for each child.

We will be a closed campus from 1:30-2:00 on this day to give all staff the opportunity to view the eclipse. Parents will not be able to view the eclipse with your child on campus. We understand if this opportunity is something you want to share with your child. If that is the case, you will need to pick them up from school by 1:15 before we start transitioning outside and closing the campus.

We are so excited to share in this monumental event with our Mustangs!

Campus Closed to Visitors on April 11th, 18th, and 23rd for STAAR testing

We love and appreciate our volunteers and parents. All volunteers and parents, however, are asked to please reschedule classroom volunteer times and lunch visits during the STAAR testing days. Maintaining security is a priority and we appreciate your cooperation in providing the best test-taking environment for all of our McNeil students. ONLY school personnel will be allowed in the hallways and cafeteria on  April 11th, 18th, and 23rd.

Thank you for your support!

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Head Start is a full-day program for qualifying students ages 3 and 4. The day stats at 7:15 a.m. and ends at 2:22 p.m. This is a free, federal program for qualifying students and bus transportation is available. The Head Start program provides a learning environment that supports children’s growth in many areas such as language, literacy, and social and emotional development. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher.

Lawson hosts a full-day Pre-Kindergarten program for 4-year-old students. The Pre-K school day begins at 7:15 a.m. and ends at 2:22 p.m. The program is free for qualifying students, and bus services to and from the student’s home or daycare (must be located within MISD boundaries) are offered. Some of the qualifying criteria include if child is non-English or limited English (not fluent) speaker. Family is homeless, Child is/was in foster care in the state of Texas (Form #2085 from DFPS required), Parent is on active military duty or has been killed/injured in action.

The focus of the Pre-Kindergarten program is to develop oral language, prerequisite skills for emergent readers and early math concepts, and to build readiness skills for successful entry into kindergarten.

Our goal is to build readiness skills for students to be successful in kindergarten.

VISITORS & VOLUNTEERS

A software system called “Hallpass Volunteer Visitor System” is used to scan in visitors. A valid state or government issued photo ID must be presented EACH TIME you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return when you have it. We can not accept photos on a phone of your government issued ID.

MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application using the button below.
