McManus picks on Propositions

Proposition A: For (Yes)
Proposition B: Against (No)
Proposition C: For (Yes)

I found the explanations from the Friends of the San Antonio Family Association helpful on the propositions.

Proposition A will bring the San Antonio referendum back in line with Texas' statute.

Proposition B will restrict the San Antonio City Council's responsibility to approve or disapprove of the City Manager and the respective contract for that selected person.

It also increased the necessity to elect good Councilmen and Mayor.  And, as it is their responsibility, they should have the ability to choose the appropriate compensation for the City Manager which should not be tied to the lowest paid City employee.

Additionally, having the lowest paid City of San Antonio employee which now a "living wage" tied to the City Manager's pay could easily be treated as a "leap frog effect" similar to how Union wages are tied to the Minimum Wage.  The increase of one triggers the argument and/or cause for the other to be increased.

This could happen at a local level too where it gives argument or cause for that "leap frog effect" between the City of San Antonio's employees but possibly with the Police and Fire union pay too, especially on contract renewals. This is an unknown.

Indirectly, Prop B also expands the bureaucracy.

Proposition C will force both sides -- the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Fire Department -- to come to the table and make a reasonable contract agreement that will usually involve both sides getting some of what they want and some of what they don't want.  Ultimately, it should save the taxpayers money depending upon who we elect to the San Antonio City Council.
