Mayor's Special Edition

HAPPY NEW YEAR, SCHAUMBURG!

The holiday season sure does go by quickly. Before we celebrate the new year upon us, I’d like to highlight some of the notable things that occurred in 2023. Schaumburg continues to welcome new businesses and developments while offering top-notch service to those who live, work, and play here. I’m proud of the many accomplishments that were achieved this past year. Below are just some of the top milestones we achieved with additional initiatives listed on the village’s website.

  • To assist residents impacted by the pandemic, the Village Board distributed one-time $150 residential rebate payments to approximately 18,300 owner-occupied households.
  • Standard & Poor's Rating Service (S&P) reaffirmed the village’s AAA bond rating, which is the highest rating a municipality can obtain.
  • The Village Board approved a measure to keep the property tax levy flat for 2023, which is the same amount that was levied since 2019.
  • Both the Fire Department and Engineering & Public Works Department received reaccreditation honors for continuing to meet the highest professional standards in their respective agencies, which demonstrates their commitment to continuous improvement to serve the community.
  • The Village Board approved the master plan for The District at Veridian in 90 North, which will include more than one million square feet of retail, restaurant, residential, and office space.
  • The village welcomed a variety of new businesses including First Watch, J.Crew Factory, Carvana, Alex Baby & Toy, Diamonds Direct, Kohl’s – Sephora, and Tony’s Fresh Market. Woodfield Mall welcomed European retailer Primark and Radio Flyer, among others.
  • Progress was made on several large roadway projects including improvements to National Parkway and Rodenburg Road. Work on both these projects will continue in 2024. In addition, local street repair this past year included 3.4 miles of reconstruction, 3.6 miles of corrective resurfacing, and 11.9 miles of preventative maintenance.

With a new year upon us, I look forward to what 2024 will bring in terms of additional investment and enhancements to the community. Below are some exciting things to watch for:

  • Phase I construction of the Entertainment District is poised to begin, which will be an exciting addition to the area near the Schaumburg Convention Center. This includes development of Andretti Indoor Karting & Games and a 900-space parking structure as well as a future entertainment user and restaurant.
  • Phase II work on the 90 North District Park is set to begin and will include work on two distinct areas: a Water Feature Plaza and a Tilted Lawn Zone. This will also coincide with construction of the new Shared Street that will define the western boundary of the park.
  • Construction is anticipated to begin on HopScotch, a British pub-style restaurant, that will be located near Oberweis Dairy in Town Square.
  • Dave & Buster’s is scheduled to open in spring of 2024 in the old GameWorks space at the Streets of Woodfield.
  • Steinhafels is replacing Bed, Bath & Beyond and Joong Boo Market will be replacing the old Toys “R” Us on Golf Road.
  • Plans are being submitted to reimagine the demolished Macy’s Furniture Gallery space at the northwest corner of Meacham and Golf roads in what will be called Crossroads of Schaumburg. Plans include a new 5-building development of restaurants and retail for that location.
  • Cloos Robotic Welding is moving into the new 46,000 square foot facility at 500 Commerce, which you’ll be able to see from I-90.

I am extremely proud of our accomplishments from 2023, and I am confident we’ll achieve even greater success in 2024. As always, I thank my dedicated Village Board members, staff and advisory committees, and volunteers who continue to make Schaumburg a special community for all to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Tom Dailly
