Dear Friends -
This week, we have lots of announcements for fun summer events. Mark your calendars and join us for these family-friendly community events, including: Juneteenth, the Andretta Pool and Kingston Point Beach openings, a food truck festival, additional Ward meetings, and more!
Plus we announced more upcoming paving on Elizabeth and Wall Street later this month.

Listening Tour Wards 4-6 Dates Announced | |
Mayor Noble, along with Council members from each Ward, will continue his Listening Tour, hosting monthly Ward meetings to meet with residents and hear their concerns.
Starting with Ward 1 in April and Ward 2 in May, Mayor Noble will host Ward 3 on Monday, June 17 at 5:30pm at the Kingston Library temporary location (61 Crown Street), as previously announced.

Kingston Organics Program Has Reached 1,000 Members! | |
The City of Kingston's Organics diversion program has over 1,000 participants! We are now serving 1,006 participants, representing 458 families, across 11 sites around our City. To date, since collection began in July 2023, the program has diverted 28.61 TONS of food scraps from our waste stream.

As a reminder, this program is for food only. No non-food items are accepted, but ALL FOOD is accepted--raw, cooked, meat, veggies, fruits, fish, bones, dairy, bread, coffee grinds-- food in any form.

The City of Kingston, along with Harambee Kingston, will celebrate Juneteenth with two special events.
On Friday, June 14, the City of Kingston will host a concert at Old Dutch Church, featuring Juma Sultan’s Aboriginal Music Society, a 10-piece afro-funk ensemble, with a pre-concert talk by drummer and master teacher Ubaka Hill, who also serves as the Program Coordinator at Harambee Kingston.
On Saturday, June 15, an all-day event starting at the Pine Street African Burial Ground and moving to Harambee’s African Cultural Headquarters, will feature live music, theatrical performances, children’s activities and more. Artists include Maxwell Kofi Donker and the Sankofa Dancers & Drummers, Grammy-nominated blues great Slam Allen, Oliver King portraying Frederick Douglass, Debra Zuill portraying Sojourner Truth, the Bard Jazz Band, Saints of Swing with Rene Bailey, the Women’s Drumsong Orchestra, and more.

Juneteenth commemorates the official end of slavery in the US on June 19, 1865, the date that emancipation was declared in Texas two and a half years after the official signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. It became of Federal holiday in 2021, an official state holiday in 2020, and a City of Kingston holiday in 2022.

Kingston Point Beach & Andretta Pool Openings | |
Mayor Noble and the Kingston Parks and Recreation Department are pleased to announce that Kingston Point Beach will officially open on Saturday, June 15, 2024, and Andretta Pool will open Saturday, June 29, 2024.
For the first two weeks, Kingston Point Beach will only be open on the weekends (June 15-16 and June 22-23, 2024), and after that, the beach will be open with lifeguards on duty five days a week, Wednesday through Sunday, from 10:00am-4:45pm.
The Andretta Pool and splash pad will be open to the public starting on Saturday, June 29, 2024. The pool will be open Wednesdays through Sundays (times vary each day, see attached schedule). Mondays and Tuesdays are closed for summer camp swim days. There will be no entry fee for the pool.
“We are excited to open the beach and pool for our residents this summer, and once again we are able to open both free of charge,” said Mayor Noble.

Information about swim lessons or general questions about water safety can be sent to aquatics@kingston-ny.gov.
Hours for both the beach and pool are subject to change, based on staffing and weather. Check the Andretta Pool and Kingston Point Beach Facebook page for updates.
Construction at Dietz Stadium continues, but a portion of the parking lot will be open for Andretta Pool access. More on the larger Dietz Stadium project can be found here.

Food Truck Festival at 615 Broadway | |
The City of Kingston and Kingston House of Culture are hosting a Food Truck Festival at 615 Broadway on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6:00-9:00pm, which will feature a DJ, live dancers, food trucks, vendors, and more.

The property at 615 Broadway, is being developed by Baxter DevCo, in consultation with the City, to create a sustainable and dynamic mixed-use development on the site. The project site is 0.78 acres, located in the Midtown District adjacent to the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC). The plan includes 70 residential units, ground floor commercial space for arts-focused businesses, and dedicated public open space for the Pauline Oliveros Deep Listening Plaza. At least 20% of the residential units will be provided to households averaging 80% AMI. The team is currently working through site plan approvals and construction is expected to begin in 2025. Paving + Weekly Roadwork/Infrastructure Update | |
Paving-- the next round of paving in 2024 will be Elizabeth Street from Washington Avenue to Marius Street and Wall Street from Greenkill Avenue to Henry Street. Preparation in the area has already begun. Milling is expected to begin on Monday, June 24, 2024, with paving expected to be completed by Friday, June 28, 2024, weather depending.
Wurts Street Bridge-- paving at Abeel Street & Wurts was completed. Current work includes steel repairs, paint touch up, electrical work, striping and punch list items.
Central Hudson-- gas main install/work will continue on Wall St from Franklin to Henry, Linderman Ave from Washington to Wall, Furnace Street, and Warren Street.
Service installation will continue on St James St and Fair Street.
Post Office Park -- crews will continue installing concrete structures, and will begin grading site for landscaping.
Prospect Street Sewer Project-- no construction work next week.
Clinton Avenue Uptown Transportation Improvements Project -- no construction work next week.

The Kingston 311 app, website, and phone system allow residents to quickly and easily report issues and submit service requests.
The Kingston 311 app, available for Android & iPhones, is a fast and simple way to connect to City officials in non-emergency situations. Photos can be attached to illustrate service orders.
This system is a valuable resource to submit municipal service requests. Examples include:
- Streetlight replacement
- City signage, including overgrowth blocking traffic signs
- Snow removal, reporting parking violations, and other snow-related issues
- Parks & playground repairs
- Report graffiti or vandalism
- Trail issues
