SJRWMD Preps for 2018 Hurricane Season
According to the  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration , forecasters believe that the number of storms we experience this year will be above average than previous years. In an effort to be as prepared as possible, the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) has worked with our local governments to coordinate preparations on how to assist during a storm and respond after a storm as quickly as conditions allow.

The SJRWMD operates flood-control structures in the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin in order to create additional capacity when necessary. Similarly, the Upper St. Johns River Basin Project has gate structures to allow water to flow north, increasing the water storage capacity.

In addition, the SJRWMD staff participates in statewide disaster preparedness training with Florida’s emergency officials. A list of local government flooding contacts as well as additional hurricane and flooding information is available on the district’s website
