Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation Moves Forward
For nearly two decades the development of any new construction or restroom improvements at Broad Creek has been on hold waiting for state approval and securing funding for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.
I am pleased to share that at the April Council Executive Board meeting it was announced that full funding has been secured, and board approval given, to move forward with the construction of a new $2.2 million wastewater treatment plant and one of three new restroom/shower facilities at a cost of $500,000.

To keep scouts engaged, it's important to create a fun-filled atmosphere that encourages friendship and growth. Here are 8 quick ways to maximize engagement in your unit.
- School – Contact the PTA to get involved with Field Days, End-of-Year celebrations and ask about Back to School Night
- Inactive Scouts - Reach out to see how they are doing and invite them back
- Peers - Use buddy cards to invite a friend to a service project, game night, or star gazing you choose.
- Other Units - Reach out to a nearby Troop or Pack to build connections for rising Webelos and AOLs
- Families - Do something special to celebrate Mother’s Day
- Community – Participate in a Memorial Day event. Be seen in the community.

Broad Creek Staff Scholarship
The BCAA, in conjunction with the Baltimore Area Council, is dedicated to ensuring we recruit and retain the best camp staff in the country. Additionally, we also want to ensure they are set up for success after their time at Broad Creek.
The BCAA Camp Staff Scholarship awards an annual scholarship for eligible Camp Staff membership attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university as well as a trade school.

Baltimore Area Council Annual Business Meeting Announcement
The Baltimore Area Council holds an annual business meeting in June, under the leadership of the Council President, Commissioner, Nominating Committee Chair and Scout Executive.
Voting members (Council Members-at-Large, Executive Board, District Chairmen & Chartered Organization Representatives) are invited to attend on the annual business meeting on Thursday, June 15th, Central Presbyterian Church, 7308 York Rd, Towson, MD 21204. Council Business meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.
To nominate a person to serve on the Council’s Executive Board, please submit their name, community/town, occupation (if known), contact information and any Scouting, community, or civic involvement that might be beneficial to the Council. You can send the information to any member of the nominating committee directly or care of the council, attention Kenn Miller.
The nominating committee members are Chairman David Gibbons; Candace Gill, Lindsey Welsh, Steve Yelland, Stuart Bell, Dr. Anthony Jenkins and Jenn Vitelkites.

National Youth Leadership Training
NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth leaders with skills and experience in leadership that they can use in their home Unit and their everyday life.
The course is conducted under the auspices of the Baltimore Area Council Training Committee using the latest national BSA-developed National Youth Leadership Training syllabus and parallels the Wood Badge training for adults.

Wood Badge
Wood Badge is an advanced, national leadership course open only to Scouting volunteers and professionals. Adult Scouters from Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, and Explorers, and district and council Scouters all are welcome and belong here.
The course is conducted under the sponsorship of the Baltimore Area Council Training Committee using the latest national BSA-developed Wood Badge Training syllabus.

Brownsea Youth Leadership Training
Brownsea prepares Scouts to lead others by learning to lead themselves. It is designed to enhance and expand on the training in leadership and Scoutcraft provided by a Scout’s troop and paves the way for more advanced leadership courses, including National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).

Congratulations, Ben!
Eagle Scout Project of the Year Awardee, Ben Bergamaschi, designed and built 3 rescue stations at Piney Branch Lake. He organized people, led fundraising projects, and successfully collaborated with others to complete his Eagle Project. Ben faced some challenges, however the best part was seeing his plan come to life.
Earning your eagle is no small feat! Accomplishing Eagle guarantees you a set of survival skills that will help you be successful as an adult.
