Exciting breaking news for duck hunters: an option for a 3-pintail bag limit has been approved for the 2025-2026 waterfowl season! California Waterfowl led the charge along with our partners to get this model adjusted. We remain steadfast in our pursuit in advocating on behalf of the California duck hunting community.

Birds Banded in 2023


In 2023, we banded a total of 8,549 birds, including 17 different species, with the majority being mallards, northern pintails, and gadwalls. To view the full story and to learn more about CWA's banding program click here.



Take a look at what CWA has been up to recently!


This excavator is removing salt cedar in preparation for levee construction within the 312 units at the Imperial Wildlife Area’s Wister Unit. Salt cedar is a very invasive and water thirsty plant that degrades the quality of wetlands and compromises infrastructure over time. This project is being funded through grants awarded to California Waterfowl through the Wildlife Conservation Board. Results will enhance management and habitat quality while expanding hunting opportunities.
