May Newsletter 2024

We Are Oglesby would like to thank everyone that came out to our Open House last month! It was a pleasure talking with everyone and getting to show what We Are Oglesby is about.
Also, we thank Sacred Senses and Mr. Salsa's for their generous donation towards our door prizes!
We hope that our raffle winners enjoy their prizes that included gift certificates/drink chips from our members Sacred Senses, Garzanelli's Supper Club, Beck's Oil Phillip 66, MP Automotive, Archway Tap, Bulldogs Bar, Lizzie's Lounge, and Mercer's Rooftop.
Another big thank you to LaSalle County CASA for their special presentation. We learned how and why being an advocate is so important to the well being of youth in crisis situations and how we can support CASA in many ways.
Lastly, a special thank you to the Oglesby Elks for hosting us for the evening and providing a wonderful selection of food and beverages. Your generosity is deeply appreciated!

Sacred Senses

Lexanne Jarosz, the owner of Sacred Senses, was born into a family that owned a cemetery. That, paired with becoming a CNA at the age of 16, started to prepare her for a world that she did not originally set out to be a part of. While working in a variety of healthcare settings, Lexanne noticed that while most people ran away from death, she seemed to be running into it. So, she embarked on a journey to learn more about end-of-life and to connect with families and individuals experiencing death and grief. This led her to become an End-Of-Life and Grief Specialist.

Amongst her many titles, Lexanne's favorite is mother and wife. She holds a Bachelor's in Science with a concentration in Small Business and Entrepreneurship and a Grief Coaching Certification through The Institute of Professional Grief Coaching, accredited by the International Coaching Federation. She has studied with many experts in the grief and trauma fields including David Kessler, Paul Denniston, and Frank Anderson, MD, a psychiatrist who specializes in trauma. Lexanne boasts an impressive variety of certifications including Grief Educator, Grief Movement, Funeral Celebrant, End-Of-Life Doula, Massage Therapist, Usui Reiki Practitioner, and a 200-hour Yoga Certificate.

Lexanne wants to be a light for others in their darkness. Her vision for the community is to create a safe space for people to connect the body, mind, and spirit that focuses on death, dying, grief, trauma, and education. Looking at humans as a whole being where everything is connected. A true "wholistic" practice, awakening the senses and moving through the sacred work that is involved with death, dying, and grief both earth side and through transitioning to the next realm. As a forever student, Lexanne is committed to continuing her education of death, dying, and the bereaved, while deepening her understanding of the connection that the body, mind, and spirit have as a whole, through continued coursework and experience.

Oglesby Elks 2024 Eighth Grade Ball a Huge Success!

The 40th Annual Eighth Grade Ball for smaller school districts has been a big event that is much anticipated by local, soon-to-be high schoolers. Since its beginning in 1982, minus the two-year hiatus during the pandemic, the ball has been sponsored by the Oglesby Elks Lodge #2360 and held in the decorated main ballroom. Many parents of the attendees mentioned that they had also attended the ball in the past and reminisced about how much fun they had.

This year, over 120 students from 10 local schools attended. They all had a "ball" dressing up in their finest and dancing to their favorite music played by the DJ. The Elks members chaperoned the evening and provided refreshments. The event was once again chaired by Dustin and Kelli Shan. It's the Elks' Commitment to Caring and Sharing!
