Welcome to Pigeon Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District Monthly Email Update – April, 2024.
The First Official Draft of the Lake Management Plan public comment period has closed and we were very pleased to see such strong support from Waupaca Co. Our County Conservationist, Brian Haase, has plenty of experience with our watershed and with development and implementation of 9 Key Element plans. In fact, Brian has already started exploring some grant opportunities that could provide significant financial support to some long-term initiatives to improve our lake.
Unfortunately, our March 4th meeting (postponed February meeting) was also cancelled, but on March 20th we had a long and productive meeting with plenty of public comment. On April 24th we will have a Special Meeting (6:00pm) to address an amendment to the 2024 budget, followed by our regular board meeting. Note that this meeting will be held at the Clintonville Community Center. All welcome!
Spring Planting Party: we have tentative dates for the Spring Planting of native emergent plants to enhance our fish nursery habitat. The nursery will have the plants ready for pick up in mid-May – so we are aiming to plant on the weekend of May 18th or 25th. More details to come!
We are looking forward to the Ruff Fish Tournament on July 13th and are partnering with the CAST (Clintonville Area Swim Team) who will hold a fish fry after the event.
We have presented the proposed self-service Kayak/Paddleboard Rental Kiosk to the City Council. There is a lot of positive support for this initiative which will increase the recreational opportunities on Pigeon Lake. More to come on this!
Our DNR Water Biologist has agreed to participate in our planned educational series – mainly for the Riparians. If you are interested in attending and have a topic you’d like to discuss, please send us an email with your ideas.
HELP WANTED:
· We are in the process of seeking, hiring and training a new “weedcutter” operator. Interested?
· Do you know anyone who would like to be involved in water sampling? At least once a month – training will be provided.
· Any other volunteers – we will be creating several working committees and would love to put your talents to work.
For any of these, just drop us a quick email (pigeonlake54929@gmail.com) or phone call (715- 853-0077).
