Summer is here!

That means the start of summer fun – pool parties, watermelon, and cookouts galore! Unfortunately, for us here in the Valley of the Sun and Tucson, “hot dog” can be a phrase with multiple meanings. Here are some annual reminders to help you and your pup beat the heat!

  • Pavement and asphalt can retain a lot of heat, even into the early evening! A good rule of thumb is to hold the back of your hand against the pavement for ~10 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog!

  • Many dog breeds like Labradors or Poodle mixes love to swim! If this is your puppy’s first summer, learn how to help them get started with swimming with our blog on teaching your dog to swim. Not a swimming breed of dog? Many dogs can still enjoy water to cool down with a sprinkler, hose, or wading pool!

  • Hydration, hydration, hydration! The dry desert air can leach away water. If you and your dog are out and about, make sure that you have a water bottle on hand, as well as a bowl for your dog. Another fun way to keep your dog healthy and hydrated – try out these recipes for dog-friendly “ice cream”!

  • Heat stroke can come on quickly and can be very serious for both dogs and humans alike. Learn how to recognize the symptoms of heatstroke and learn how to prevent here.

Chip Your Pet Month!

May was Chip Your Pet Month!

Every year, nearly 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the United States. Their best chance at reunion is through being identified and returned to their owners. Microchipped pets are three times more likely to be reunited with their owners than those that do not have one.

As a reminder, all puppies that come from Puppies ‘N Love and Animal Kingdom are microchipped, automatically registered with your information at time of purchase, and come with a lifetime membership to PetKey. This permanent, positive identification will allow a veterinarian to scan the microchip for your contact information and address should your pet ever become lost. Had a recent change of address? Don’t forget to update your information in PetKey!

While microchips can be hugely helpful when it comes to getting your dog back home safely, there are still more steps that you can take to identify your pet! Some people choose to attached Apple Airtags to their dogs’ collars so that they may “ping” their location with their phone. There is also the tried and true method of a collar and a nametag with your information. We have many

Spring 2024 Breeder Trip

We are proud to work with breeders that are committed to animal welfare, and twice per year we even visit a number of these breeders! Meet one of the breeders from our latest trip - James Graber!

James started as a hobby breeder with German Shepherds, which he always had a passion for because of their intelligence and devoted family disposition. He has now expanded and has fallen in love with Golden Retrievers’ soft, easy-going nature, especially with his small children.

His kennels are carefully designed with large indoor areas and platforms with stairs to allow mommas to have their personal time while the puppies can romp and play below. (Personal time is important to dogs, too!) You can often find his large English Cream Male dog diving into the large pond that sits in front of their kennels.

All of his animals are provided daily enrichment and socialization… even his sheep and two orphan cows are trained! Puppies are being constantly handled, socialized, and loved by his children.

We assume a lifetime responsibility for every puppy we send home. Our Homes for Life program is the result of this commitment and our dedication to preventing pet homelessness.

We understand that for unfortunate and unforeseen reasons sometimes customers who purchase our puppies can no longer care for them. For this reason, our customers agree to relinquish the dog to us, not a shelter.

We do this to ensure that we can find them a new, loving home but first provide them with the rehabilitation and care that they may need in addition to a neuter/spay as part of our commitment to responsible pet ownership.

Arrow is a six-month-old neutered Beagle. He can be very sweet, but he can be possessive of food or toys. Who We Are
If you're new around here, please watch our newest introduction video that illustrates our mission, values, how we care for our puppies and our quality breeders:
To ensure that all of our puppies find homes in a timely manner, we reduce their price as they age.

By no means are we lowering the cost of these puppies because they are in any way less valuable, but it’s our mission to find each of our puppies a permanent, loving home as quickly as possible.

This Havanese is the best of both worlds - perfectly content to cuddle or to play like crazy! He's a very quiet boy, as well. Definitely a great family dog... now he just needs to find his family! This little boy, affectionately nicknamed "Hank", is looking for his forever home at our Arrowhead Towne Center location. Come meet him today, or give us a call at 623-878-9059.

Star of the Month

Daisy and Rusty the Teddy Bears

What's cuddlier than a Teddy Bear? TWO Teddy Bears! Daisy and Rusty are our co-stars of the month because as you can tell from their pictures - they are the best of friends! Here are a few words from their family.

Meet Daisy and Rusty, our teddy bears! Daisy is 10 months old and Rusty is 4 months old. They are the best of friends and have been such a fun addition to our family of 6. They love to play but love a cuddle session even more. We were drawn to them both of course for their cute little faces but their personalities have been the big win! They are affectionate, calm, quiet and smart (with a little spunk!) and both transitioned so easily to our home. They are so loved and we are so happy they are ours!

Puppies N Love was such an easy process. We have always been greeted with a smile and conversation with the staff. They are informative and helpful. When purchasing both pups, we received ample information on their bloodlines and genetic testing and we believe they do a great job picking their breeders. They welcomed back Daisy for a play date with Rusty to make sure he would be a good buddy for her as well! They are always friendly and checking in on both dogs when we come in for food and treats. We are glad for the relationship we have with Puppies N Love.

We are happy that these two have found such a loving home!

Thank you for sharing, Emily!

BUYERS BEWARE
ARIZONA RANKS HIGH ON BBB'S LIST OF PUPPY SCAMS COMMITTED IN 2022
In the last few years, online pet scams are on the rise and have caused grief for people seeking new pets, with little to no recourse for the victims.

According to the Better Business Bureau, Arizona is at the top of the list for puppy scams per 100k people.

California is the state with the most reported puppy scams, with 167 scams reported to the Better Business Bureau from January 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022. This makes up more than 10% of the total number of scams reported nationwide.

SPOTTING A SCAM

If you are looking for a puppy, be careful & remain vigilant!

Here is how to spot a puppy scam online from AKC:

  • No phone calls. The seller prefers to handle communication by email and not the phone. A reputable breeder will always communicate with you via phone or video chat (if not in person) before selling you a puppy. Fraudulent sellers are oftentimes outside of the U.S. and may be hiding their phone number by only communicating by email.
  • Copycat or stock photos. Photos of the dog or ad text can be found on multiple websites. Search for the text or reverse image search the photos on Google to find out if they were copied.
  • Sketchy payment. The seller asks for wiring of money or payment by gift cards. Be aware that if you choose a non-secure method of payment, it is highly unlikely that you will get your money back. Avoid paying a stranger using apps such as Venmo, as it is harder to get your money back if you don’t get what you paid for.
  • Price is too good to be true. Research the prices for the breed you are considering. Purebred dogs sold at deeply discounted prices are typically frauds. If the seller says they register their dogs with a specific organization, you can call the organization to confirm.
