May Newsletter

MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Happy May Horseshoe Bay. This month brings us warmer weather, flowers in bloom and many celebrations to enjoy. The Horseshoe Bay POA respectfully greets all moms and we thank you for everything moms do to make our lives better. Happy Mother’s Day!

Last month we hosted the second annual Spring Fling Art Festival and it was a tremendous event for our community. We appreciate the many artists and crafters that participated in bringing their lovely works for our guests to enjoy and purchase a special one-of-a-kind find. Guests delighted in having the opportunity to meet local artists and artisans while being able to do a little bit of shopping, there was food, wine tastings and live music provided by the Ricky Adams Band. We look forward to the different festivities we have planned for the upcoming months.

The Horseshoe Bay POA Directory is in the works so if you have any corrections to be made or if you would like to be listed on the upcoming directory, please contact the POA office at 830-598-8795. If you are a local business owner, we kindly ask that you list your business in our POA Business Directory. In addition to having great exposure in our community, you will have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Consumer Showcase scheduled for May 24th. Additionally your business will be featured on our online directory and be highlighted on our social media handles. This is also a fantastic way to support your POA!

Our Community Educational Series continues this month with an informational session about Medicaid entitled Medicaid Myths aimed to illustrate the actual financial requirements for individuals as well as ways to protect assets and seek resources. This seminar is presented by The Brixton at Horseshoe Bay, featuring Janet Brown, Regional Director, Carol Fox with Medicaid Filing Connection and other medical professionals from the facility. Do not miss the presentation scheduled for Monday, May 8th starting at 3:00 PM at Quail Point Lodge. For more information on this seminar or if you have a pertinent topic that you would like to present to the Horseshoe Bay community please contact Karen Calderon-Schweitzer at Karen@hsbpoa.org

A Vintage and Charming Mother's Day

by Whit Holcomb

With a sparkle in her eye, Kim Chandler recalls going through her Grandmother's 'pirate chest' of costume jewelry as a child and discovering wearable treasures. On special occasions, there would be a private runway show displaying the cache of gems. Collecting vintage and costume jewelry was a natural hobby born from this.

About thirty years ago, this hobby became a business that Kim had learned so much about. Kim's website, stellaella.com, features a thoughtfully curated collection of stunning handmade and historical jewelry pieces. Kim's daughter, Kelly, follows in her mother's footsteps with a wine charm business and has an Etsy shop. Wine charms help keep track of your wine glass at gatherings. Both mother and daughter do the majority of their business online.

Kim's late husband was originally from Texas, and they had learned of Horseshoe Bay from friends who frequented the area. Kim and Kelly have been here since 2015 and say Horseshoe Bay is the 'friendliest place' to live and enjoy being a part of a close-knit community. They also enjoy the unique shopping in Bee Cave (Kelly's favorite) or winery tours near Johnson City and the central location of so many incredible places.

We wish Kim, and all moms, a happy Mother's Day on Sunday, May 14th.
