May News on the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Construction Updates

In April, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:

Area 1: Reston Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive (Except Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection)

Began drilling noise barrier foundations along eastbound Route 7 between Bishopsgate Way and Markell Court.
Set noise barrier panels along eastbound Route 7 east of Reston Parkway.

Area 2: Baron Cameron Intersection

Continued construction of the improvements at the Route 7/Baron Cameron Avenue intersection.
Began construction of the extension of the third westbound lane on Baron Cameron Avenue through the Hunter Gate Way intersection.

Area 3: Difficult Run Area (Colvin Forest Drive to Faulkner Drive

Constructed the bridge rail and approach slabs for the new Difficult Run bridge on westbound Route 7.
Placed cement-treated aggregate, base asphalt, and installed curb returns along westbound Route 7 between Faulkner Drive and Carpers Farm Way.

Area 4: Faulkner Drive to Jarrett Valley Drive

Completed noise barrier foundation drilling along westbound Route 7 between Towlston Road and Lyons Street.
Completed noise barrier and retaining wall post installation along westbound Route 7 between Forestville Drive and Trotting Horse Lane.
Continued paving between Faulkner Drive and Beulah Road.
Completed rough grading at the stormwater management pond west of Trotting Horse Lane.
Placed cement-treated aggregate and base asphalt and installed curb along eastbound Route 7 between Towlston Road and Lucky Estates Drive.
Shifted eastbound Route 7 traffic and began milling existing asphalt between Atwood Drive and Lucky Estates Drive.
Continued paving operations between Lucky Estates Drive and Lewinsville Road.

Third-party utility relocation activities are ongoing.

Work Continues Along Route 7

Construction activities will be ongoing along Route 7 through the spring and summer months. Surface paving will continue, and traffic shifts will occur in the Lewinsville Road area in preparation for the permanent configuration at the Route 7/Lewinsville Road intersection. Please see the project website for information on upcoming lane shifts and other roadway impacts.
